I think there were 3 versions of this rescue by Israeli soldiers at the Uganda airport. This one has Peter Finch it is a damn good movie. For those who haven't seen any of these movies, probably not very many of you, you won't be disappointed. The other two are: Victory at Entebbe Operation Thunderbolt |

A similar op was the American raid on Son Toy (spelling?) prision in Vietnam. The raid itself was carried out very well, Green Berets killed an estimated 200 odd enemy with no dead on our side. However, the POWs had been moved earlier so there was no one to rescue. IIRC, the CIA knew but did not inform the army of the POW move.
In the aftermath the commies were unsettled by the raid, it gave them a feeling we could hit where and when we wanted and get away with it. Another impressive raid was the one the Nazis launched to rescue Il Duce. |

Good movie!!! Just goes to show you what balls of steel can do!! The key lesson I've seen discussed is that this incident shows you what can happen when you plan for casualties. When the LTC was mortally shot in the chest, every one of his men ran right past him and proceeded to kick ass. Really great story. |
