I’m a student at a private catholic university, a gun nut, and an AVID second amendment supporter. Recently I have received a couple of emails from the school mentioning how some students were mugged and how there was someone killed in a shooting right down the road(as of right now, not a student though.) In the emails they explain what one should do in these situations, such as deescalate the situation, give the person what you want, and call the police. That’s all well and good, but how can you stop someone from taking your life by doing any of that, especially without being armed? Ok, so what’s the point?
I feel almost a sense of obligation to write a letter to my school president addressing the CCW issue and why students should be allowed to carry weapons to defend themselves. Now I realize this is a failure before it begins especially with a Catholic School, but I want to make it known that some in the student population believe they have a right to defend themselves and the school denies them of that. Not to mention our school “security guards” don’t even carry firearms and most of them are absolutely worthless. There protocol is to call the police and sadly we all have a pretty good idea of how that goes. What do you guys think, is it worth it? I wouldn’t want to half ass it and would like to include some research and studies on the topic. I’m also a little worried that they might get the idea that I’m some crazy person (you know how people are). Input!!!!!!! |

The school owners and admins are just a fraction of the problem. They also have to placate the students as well as the hippy dippy parents of the students. And don't forget the alumni and faculty.
No, CCW will never fly in NY universities. Not until there are much deeper changes to the gun culture here. If you want to help with that, submit a few pro-gun articles to the school paper. And I'm no saying "here's what you should believe, stupid" articles, but cover 2A news stories with minimal bent. Let the facts speak for themselves. The supreme court case, a local self-defense shooting, a liberal girl's first experience at a training class, a how-to guide for getting a pistol permit in your county, that kinda stuff. Don't portray gun ownership as embattled or unusual; instead, work to normalize it, make it seem like an everyday thing about which there isn't even a debate. |

This isnt a bad idea at all, kinda a nice subtle approach. |
