[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Carrying while running? (Page 1 of 2)

| Anyone come up with a good method for carrying while running? I'm looking at small handguns for this purpose, possibly a mini Glock, or something smaller. |
|
There really is nothing that is ideal. I hate having ANYTHING on my waist area while running. I carry my IPOD in my hand.
As already said, a Kel tec is about the best bet, but it is a .380 also. Better than nothing. I don't carry when I run. Sure anything can happen, but fuck it. I don't have 500 lbs of rice in my garage either. |

eh - I think that would be awfully cumbersome... I'd rather have something at the hip since that is the point on your body that has the least movement anyway. |

I don't carry when I run, my choice, and I don't run in the hood; but I can see where it would be a good idea.
I have one of those hand held Nathans water bottles with the carry strap and pouch attached for gel and stuff on long runs. I think that would be pretty decent for something like a P3AT. Hell you could make your own rig and do it how you like. It wouldn't be against your body so you would have less sweat on the gun, which is a good thing. |

I used to wear 5.11 shorts with a belt and used a VM
II when out running. Since then I have quit doing that and just carry a surefire in ahletic shorts. If I really want to be armed while running these days I'll probably get a G26 and wear it OWB. Most of my workout shirts are pretty loose anyhow. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

The pistolwear didn't work for me. Too floppy.
I carried a PM-9 in one of these on a 10 mile run Saturday morning. Pull the straps tight and it works just fine. The little side pockets on the straps are perfect for a spare mag, goos, and car keys. |

Actually, that looks like the best jogging carry rig that I have seen. Impeach Obama because he keeps violating the Constitution. |

A FAG bag isn't a bad option if you can tolerate it, but I just skip a heater and carry a small knife clipped to the waistband of my shorts. I usually just carry a knife myself. I recently moved to a new state, and the unfamiliar area just made me rethink my choice not to carry. Not that I live in a bad area now, it's just that anytime I'm out of my house I have a gun on me, the exception being while I'm running. Other than the difficulting of carrying in running clothes, I don't really have an excuse for not carrying a gun. |
Something like this might be an option:

Yer' wearin' that belt buckle rig on your side....? What are you thinking? |

It's a pain in the ass. Essentially anything on the waistband pulls your pants down. You'd pit out a shoulder rig. Best thing I've found is a small fanny pack setup with something really lightweight in it. Still sucks but the best option so far. I disagree. Try a galco belly band. You will not even know it is there. You can carry a gun and phone with no movement from either. belly band |

This works like a charm for a Sub Compact semi Auto or my "always gun" which is a S&W 360. http://www.511tactical.com/browse/Home/Law-Enforcement/511-Undergear/Tops/Holster-Shirt/D/30100/P/1:100:10000:10800:10801/I/40011 ![]() |

It's probably the COLDEST damn shirt I've ever put on. |

I was never really able to come up with the perfect way to carry while running. Best I could come up with with a fanny pack with a small snubby revolver in it, swinging the pack to sit on my hip and tigthing the strap enough to keep it from rotating. Was far from perfect but worked more than it failed,LOL

How about a back pack that way you can add as much or as little weight as you like––- get one wiht a camel back and stay hydrated. Just pull the pins to the M4 and put both halves and a dozen mags in or a couple pairs of glocks if you want–––– all it will do is add to the effectiveness of the workout. Seriously if you need a gun you need one badly so having an inferior caliber and small amount of ammo is not ideal. While I have had some effective social exhanges with a 5 shot S&W .38 I'm inclined to think a full size semi auto and about 3extra mags is about right.
I really like the small bags that attach to the front handlebars of bicycles they are the ideal size and its better for your knees. |

If anyone wants to take me out on a run, I'll be an easy target. If I did carry, after about 8-10 miles I know I couldn't hit what I was aiming at anyway.
It's a risk I'm willing to live with. Only time it was ever even close to being an issue was when I was running with a large group in East Austin and some crackhead came out and yelled at us. |

In all seriousness–– I hate carrying while running. It feels awkward/ uncomfortable for me, even with an 1 1/8 NAA .22WMR carried in the pocket. How quickely I would be able to access the pistol after running for a couple miles, and how windedness/fatigue might inhibit my ability to effectively use an already difficult to shoot weapon. I take a lot of precautions (ie. I try to run in business areas and upper middle class neighborhoods instead of the ghetto, I pay attention to and communicate with the other people that might be out and about (if I run after dark), etc.... |

camel-bak with a modified pouch on the side should work...get some extra material and cut the stitching on the side of your camelbak and insert a stitched up "pocket" and attache it inside. At the opening of the new pocket attach velcro or a snap (two small squares of velcro should work good to secure it while still making it accessible) Keeps it snug against the inside of the CB and yet pretty easy to get at (and you can carry a full size 1911 this way)
or send me three easy payments of 39.99 and the new concealed carry camelbak can be all yours!

When I'm running is about the only time I'm unarmed that isn't in the doctor's office, shower, or screwing.
Unless you are doing long distance runs, I think you would benefit most by running someplace where you are less likely to need a gun. People who are in shape, and moving at a rapid pace do not make good "targets" for would-be troublemakers.
Outside of that, I just can't think of a practical and comfortable place to secure a firearm of any size when running that isn't conspicuous. A fanny pack probably is the only real practical option, as it would eliminate the sweat build-up of bellybands, thunderware, and arm bands. It would also open you up to carry something a little more useful than say a P3AT or LCP sized gun. |
