My computer has been having some issues. I believe it stemmed from some programs I tried to uninstall, but they did not uninstall correctly. Lots and lots of problems. Freezing and very, very slow start up. Takes literally several minutes for it to connect to the wireless and load Trend Micro.

Is there a real registry error correction program that isn't just a form of malware?

try CCleaner.

I'd redo the whole damn thing. I sometimes do that maybe once a year just to clean it out. I install a lot of stuff on my box for testing purposes and find a redo every now and then cleans things up.

Junk in your registry has basically no effect on performance.  Programs like CCleaner have been shown to have zero effect on performance.  Registry cleaning and optimization is a myth.  You have bigger problems, like spyware.

I started my computer in safe mode and ran Malwarebytes last night. It picked up nothing at all.

There is something making it start up super slow. Unfortunately I have a cad cam program that I cannot delete to start over again. Maybe some day I will buy another seat and then wipe this one out, but I am pretty sure they would not sell me the key to reinstall this older version.

Wish there was a way to find out what is causing the error and fix the damn thing!

A little late, but when you get it fixed, use a disk image program like Acronis True Image to make a image of your harddisk. that way you can always go back to a working copy. this also works if your harddisk fails.

Have you tryed running Task Manager? (to see what process are taking up CPU time)
Look at msconfig to see what start process are running at start up

Try Glary Utilities for tune ups, add Microsoft Essentials for spyware, lots of good reports here and elsewhere in how well it finds stuff. Best of luck getting it straightened out.

try "magical jelly bean" it might give you the CAD key. I use it to get keys from any computer I redo.

Save everything to DVD or thumbdrive you want to keep and reformat.

You'll be much happier.

And for items that didn't uninstall cleanly, take a look at  revouninstaller http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html

Problem is that I don't know what I am looking at in MSConfig.

There are quite a few processes running, but I don't know what should be running. I can't copy the processes to post them hear.

I am planning on going to MSE when my subscription to trend micro is done. Malware bytes didn't come up with anything in safe mode so I cam not hopeful that its just malware or a virus, but a programming error of some sort.

Most of the things in MSconfig startup can be disable. Google the startup programs that is on Msconfig.

Also try services.msc, disable the services that is non-microsoft and those that you don't think you need. Google the software if you're not sure.

What I think is happening is something is accessing your HD. It could be an antivirus program that is causing your computer to slow down. Try disabling it.

You also might want to download comboxfix. You might have root kits hitting your computer.

Download Process Explorer, (free), for a better look at what tasks and processes are going on in the background.
