Son starts school tomorrow for Marine combat engineer. (MOS 1371) Sounds like a cool job and he is very excited about it. I know the scope of work we did in the SeaBee's but I believe his job will be a bit different. Just wondering if any Marines could chime in on what they do.

I was a 1371 for about 6 1/2 years. The engineer school is easy, or, at least it was when I went there. The PT wasn't that hard and the instructors treated us like adults for the most part. You do vertical construction (like houses, etc), concrete construction, mine warfare, and explosives. There's some other things but they escape me. If he's active duty, before he leaves he'll find out whether he's division, service support, or air wing. The division engineers are like infantry. The other 2 are just support units. I was a division engineer and the service support guys usually pissed me off more than they helped.

He'll get to blow up more shit than Seabees could ever dream of.

Thanks. It is the MOS he was hoping for. He likes to build but likes to blow things up also. That's why he did not follow my foot steps.

<––- former 1371.

Best school I ever went to.  He'll learn some good skills and have a great time.  I lateralled in from the infantry and actually found that my pack got heavier with all the demolition kits and extra gear.
