Yesterday I heard a radio interview with him. I have always heard that he was an ultra-liberal idiot, and lately he's been into some kooky shit. But the interview he gave was pretty good. He sounded quite intelligent and like he had a good head on his shoulder. He was talking about his Navy experiences and how the most influencial person in his life other than his own father was an Admiral that worked harder and smarter than anyone. He tried to emulate the Admiral but always fell short. Anyway, it was news to me. What is your recollection of him during and immediately after his presidency? |
|
I was 10 when he lost the 1980 election, and I can still remember how excited everyone in my life was, at school, church and in the neighborhood (as a schoolkid in El Paso TX, thats all I had to go on, I didn't watch the news back then)
I can say, I don't remember a single adult being upset about Jimmy Carter losing the election, not even the teachers. |

Carter was a micromanager who beleived nobody would lie to him. He came close to losing the Cold War.
He trusted the Soviets and gutted the US military as the Soviets built up their forces in eastern Europe. He trusted the North Vietnamese as they murdered tens of thousands of non-communists in former south Vietnam. He trusted the Khmer Rouge communists in Cambodia as they murdered 2 million non-communists. He trusted the Cubans as they occupied Angola and supported communist terrorist attacks throughout southern Africa. He trusted the Nicaraguan communists as they murdered non-communists in Nicaragua and sponsored terrorist attacks in neighboring El Salvador. And he trusted the Iranian revolutionaries would be better for Iran than the Shah, until they invaded the US embassy and took the staff hostage for 440+ days. Also... His administration saw high unemployment, inflation and double digit interest rates –– something his economic advisors said was impossible. If Carter were to drop dead tomorrow, I wouldn't shed a tear. |

Quoted: Anyway, it was news to me. What is your recollection of him during and immediately after his presidency? Gas lines. Double-digit inflation. Insane unemployment. The Iran Hostage Crisis, and his complete inability to do anything about it. Responding to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan by boycotting the Olympics (yeah, THAT showed 'em!) Being told that our best days were behind us. Central America swarming with Communists. Taxes out the wazoo. The rise of Muslim extremism. A military in shambles. Get the picture?

I remember listening to him answer questions fielded to him by the press when he was the prez. His answers were intelligent, coherent, and well spoken. He really handled the media well. I'm telling you, his answers were very spontanious and articluate. It's as if he was groomed his whole life for being in the spotlight during press briefings.
As far as his political ideology, he's crazier than a fucked sheep. |

I lived near Plains, GA when that grinning idiot got elected president. He was, and is, a joke. A nice man, a good man perhaps, but sure as hell not presidential material. He was way out of his depth and his disgrace of a presidency proves it beyond question. I also knew his brother Billy Carter via dealings at the Plains warehouse, the family business. Billy was a fucking drunk and a scumbag. |

Quoted:
The only good that came out of the Carter administration was that it primed the country for Ronald Reagan. Much like what's happening with Obungler. Where's Obummer's replacement? As far as I'm concerned, the only good thing that came out of the Carter Administration was the repeal of the law making it illegal to home brew beer. That's it. I lived through the cluster fuck of his presidency. I can tell you, he fucked this country up. It took almost 4 years for Reagan to straighten it out. |

It very easy to decypher Jimmy Carter.
Step 1..get a picture of his wife Rosiland. step 2 ..put said picture next to your face for a twenty four hour period. step 3..begin batshit craziness and liberal looniness. Carter WAS/IS the worst president ever until Obangomessiah came around. |

Incompetent worthless Quisling shitstain who's only contribution to the world would to have immediately ceased his oxygen theft/CO2 emmissions. |

I'm interested to hear what the old farts have to say about this. ![]() That's why I posted this! But looking for specifics, rather than, "He was a piece of shit!" The ONLY, repeat ONLY good thing he did in his worthless life is to utterly disprove the central premise of Communist Keynsian economics by proving that you can indeed have high unemployment AND high uninflation at the same time. (Not that any socialist scum will admit this). They called it the "misery index", and if you were overseas at the time (me, Germany), it absolutely impoverished you as the dollar fell to levels agaisnt foreign currence never seen before or since - until know. |

I was 19 in 1980 and my first vote was to get RID of that motherfucker.
To this day I'm torn as to whether he was/is a commie or a cowardly IDIOT. If I recall correctly, mortgage interest rates were in the 14% + range when he was in there as well as all the previously mentioned fun. FUCK HIM. |

If I recall correctly, mortgage interest rates were in the 14 18% + range when he was in there as well as all the previously mentioned fun. FUCK HIM. Fixed ETA: We (my first wife and I) bought our first house when this idiot was president. The only way we could afford it, was to assume the loan from the seller. The loan officer at the bank told us, it was March, they had not made a home loan yet that year. If you had money to invest in CDs you made great interest income. |
| I remmber 'peanuts" going on national Tv and telling the world "We are out of oil! There simply isn't any more and ther are no more dinosaurs dieing to make some new oil!" Now this is the POTUS for crying out loud. Guess all that oil that were out of somehow simply reappeared. To give you some appreciation for how militarily minded he was, he okayed a rescue attempt of the Embassy hostages that not only was an abysmal failure, it cost more American lives than the hostage crises itself. Others have pointed to the double digit inflation, and interest rates above 20%. The man was waaaay in over his head. Want an example of someone who got elected but didn't have the qualifications to be president? Simply look at the incompetence in the current occupier of the White House and you have a fair example of Jimmy Carter. At the current rate, Obama is on course to repeat every dumb thing Jimmy Carter did. "Those who refuse to learn from history are doomed to repeat it!" |

Get the picture? ![]() Everything he did was to LOWER American expectations. We are a "can do" people, he looked silly pretending to carry his own bags and walking to the White House after being sworn in, with the SS walking with him. He looked silly in a sweater in the Oval Office telling us to lower our thermostats, instead of suggesting what's called now "using alternative energy", which meant to me at the time getting a wood stove and cutting, splitting, and burning our own firewood. He came across as a wuss! |

Desert One / Eagle Claw run from the White House. Billy Beer. ![]() - Rhodesia Completely forgot about the Panama Canal. He's such an idiot. What's next? Paying the Russians to fly to a space station mostly paid for and put into orbit by us? How ridiculous. ![]() |
