| In 1939, Pacific Grove, California, gained international attention by passing an ordinance making it a misdemeanor to molest a butterfly. |

Quoted: And on the coastal beaches of Mississippi (at least prior to Katrina) there were signs posted regarding the beach rules. The last item on the list? "No Molestation of Wildlife" ![]() It must be remembered that "molest" doesn't always have a sexual connotation. It can simply mean "to annoy, disturb, or persecute with hostile intent or injurious effect." I'm guessing the intended definition of "molest" in the Pacific Grove law was the annoy/disturb meaning, not the sexual assault meaning. (duh ) |

Quoted: Quoted: it kinda disturbs me that butterfly molestation was a big enough problem they ad to enact a law against it. Key word, California. Doesn't have the BE a problem, to have to enact a law to make it illegal. California in the 30's wasn't a damn thing like it is today. At one point, it was probably one of the most free states in the Union. |
