Hey, is the Archive Search broken?  I'm trying to find the thread where hondaciv predicted "cash for clunkers".

I've been having issues searching the archives this morning as well..but then again I have issues with everything on this POS work computer so I can't isolate the problem to the archives.

Not working for me tonight.

Browsing by forum and search by subject, body, topic author, and reply author are all working for me.

BTT  I am a bit fucking pissed.  I haven't had any luck searching the archives for quite a while.  I am a fairly advanced computer user, so this makes me feel like an idiot.  I can find my thread on the google, but it is missing from the search and archives.  Since I took the time to post quite a few photos of my project, I would kinda like to find it.

It doesn't appear in my subscribed stuff either.

Can we possibly have a google powered search engine or something that works?????

/still love this place......

Archive search isn't working for me either. Or there haven't been any threads in the past year about Pmag's. that was my way of testing.

And when the hell are we going to get a decent search feature

I think the problem you guys are running into is that a lot of the forums have threads that haven't been moved to the archives, but aren't picked up by the 3 month search limit.

For example the AR-15 Magazines forum has live threads back to 7/31/2008.

I don't know why but let me ask and see if I can find anything out.

Are there any plans to improve this? I've been  a paying member for the improved search feature, but it still sucks.

The "three month search" should be a "all active thread search".

The great search black hole between the three month limit and the archive server is ridiculous.

Ghostbusters???????????

I can't find my thread at all.  I can find a DEAD link on the Googles, but it sure aint in any 3 month search limit boolshite.................

http://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=1&f=134&t=867328

So.......now I finally found my thread.  The search engines suck ass.  They should work like the google..........I shouldn't have to have any specificity to search for a known topic that is somewhere on this board.
And now I am really pissed.  The FUCKING chocolate chip cookie in the fucking shower thread is still floating about, but I can't resurrect my thread from April with my August updates.  I can't see any way to edit it or bump it.  WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!111!1!?//??//  (I work in a similar field, so it wouldn't seem right to not be abusive in an IT unfuck request...........}

The shower cookie thread is floating around because it's stayed an active thread, your thread in question was inactive, got picked up by the archive engine and was archived.  Archived threads cannot be posted in or bumped.

I know that it doesn't do you any good for that thread but if you or anyone else has something a similar type of thread that's going to stretch out over a long period of time the moderator fo the forum can set a switch that is supposed to keep the thread from being picked up by the archive engine and will keep the thread live in the forum. A thread set that way will just fall to the bottom of the forum.  I've used it a couple of times and so far it is working.

Is it possible to get the thread moved back from the archive server? Would it just be easier to start a new thread and copy all of the old thread's content to it?

While it might be possible to move a thread from the archive server it would be a Goatboy level job.

Starting a new thread and copying content over is easy enough for anyone to do on their own.

There shouldnt be a black hole anymore. The system is all automated and runs nightly to grab things that belong in the archives.

Great news.
It's been a PITA trying to find threads that are too recent to be in the archives, but too old to find with search.
