Can someone help me out with the setup for receiving ARFCOM mail through Outlook?

I tried the traditional HTTP setup with no results. I would prefer POP3 in order to utilize Outlook's rules feature.

Thanks!

Howdee Z....

This is pretty easy stuff !

(btw:  Outlook Express works ALOT better w/ pop3 mail than
Outlook, but either will work just fine)

Just set up a mail account:

POP3 (incoming) SERVER:    mail.ar15.com
SMTP (outbound) SERVER:    mail.ar15.com

(Your user name & password are the same as what you use for the web based client.)

Since we have implemented SMTP Authentication Security,  we require that:
To SEND mail, you MUST enable "my server requires authentication"  .

Feel free to e-mail me for more info or if you need help.    [email protected]

Not working...

Jeez.... I'm getting my ass kicked by Outlook. Took forever for me to get HotMail to work. Now ARFCOM tells me I'm using the wrong password (I'm not), and it tells me the server doesn't allow secure log-ins.

Sigh.....

Use Outlook Express if you must use a M$ product.

OE is built for the POP3/IMAP user, whereas Outlook is built for corporate mail with their whole backoffice stuff.

KISS:  Eudora or Netscape or Outlook Express (free, all)

or go old skool:

flint:~/ $ fetchmail -c -ubrasspile mail.ar15.com
Enter password for [email protected]:
395 messages (395 seen) for brasspile at mail.ar15.com.

Okay.......

I'm using Outlook mostly for e-mail, contacts, and calendar. Is there a better way to do it in OE or some other group of programs? I've noticed that my Outlook tends to drag my system performance down a bit...

I'm afraid I know nothing about OE. I've never used it. Always had Outlook on a corporate PC...

Thanks!

Outlook Express is MUCH smaller/faster than Outlook, and gives you most all of the features/filters of Outlook.

It is a free download at Microsoft, and should be on your computer if you have WinXP, go to add/remove programs in control panel, then install Outlook Express (under Add/Remove Windows Components, it is a checkbox).

After doing this, immediately go to www.windowsupdate.com and get the updates, as the one that comes with XP has many security flaws that will be patched (be prepared to reboot about 10 times if you haven't been to that site before)

When you first run OE, it will take you through an "account setup wizard", where you enter the information RBAD posted above, along with your username and password.

You will then have it all running Perfectly.  The Corporate Outlook is a Total Pain to even get to work with POP mail, as it wasn't built for that use at all.

Both can be run at same time (Outlook and Outlook Express).

What ports are using for inbound and outbound mail?  Maybe that's his problem if you're using SSL ports.

Outlook is fine once you figure out how to configure it properly.

It is set up on standard ports:   110 (POP3) and 25 (SMTP)

Well, I got OE working after all, but I can't get it to work for my HotMail account!

BTW, any suggestions on setting up rules to filter out all the pron and other crap that comes into my ARFCOM account? I recognize that it's my "junk" account (anyplace I need to submit an e-mail address, it goes in, rather than my other account), but any suggestions to filter some of this crap would be helpful...

HotMail I think wants you to pay.  unsure there, I know Yahoo does.

Filtering crap from ARF - MacAfee Internet security, it has Virus Scan, and a pretty effective Spamkiller, along with other features.   Norton also has product.  Need the 2004 versions.  ($60 ish?)

I just downloaded PC-Cillin, and am not inclined to blow another $60.

Let me see how PCC's version works, because I'm pretty sure it has one.

Hotmail gives you free e-mail, although with limits.

You know, I'm curious.... Are there any GOD e-mail services out there (I'm willing to pay for it, BTW), that can set me up with a custom e-mail address? For example: Zaphod@(insertcompanynamehere).com? Something that will allow me to utilize Outlook's (be it Express or otherwise) filtering abilities?

Thanks again...

ETA: Just found and activated the functions in PCC. Let's see if they work...

If you set up OE and Outlook, you can do it.  You won't maintain anything...
