AR15.COM
12/21/2014 1:11:23 PM EDT
Hello,

I've recently been having issues with AR15.com, won't load and get a server not responding error.  The site is almost unresponsive for me if I can ever get it to load.  I've flushed DNS, switched to 8.8.8.8, tried the IP instead of the normal URL, and on my home network only AR15.com still has issues.  What else could be causing the site to not load and be routinely non-responsive?

Thanks.

I was getting pretty frustrated yesterday and this morning and then seen your post on the same thing.  I kept tinkering to no end.
I was having the same problems and it just started within the last few days.  I did all, cleared, checked and scanned computer, turned off everything, blah-blah-blah too.
Had to access through a search link and not by http and was still hanging up.  I could not even use any hot links or post without it timing out of IE.
I had no problems with any other internet site, just AR15.com.   Don't know what changed.
I downloaded Google Chrome and much better now.   Just did this morning and seems better (ETA: but still gets some hiccups) so far.
I just use Google Chrome for ARFCOM and IE for everything else.
See if this helps for you too.
me

ETA2:  Still not as fast as it used to be.  Still going to try upgrades in the next few days.
ETA3:  System Restore (9 days back) did not do anything, except cancel out Google Chrome.
ETA4:  Back to normal surfing speeds, but some hot links still not responding and reply post not responding or slow.  Who knows?

Good Luck to you.

I'm having the same issues.

I switched to Google Chrome and it got worse, generally I use Waterfox.

This is starting to really suck.

I'm having same issues no matter what browser or device I use...

Seems like I can hit the site fine and pages just hang and don't even try to load....  After the browser finally times out, I hit the refresh button and it tries again, it may or may not load the second time...  Sometimes it takes 5-6 tries...  Waiting for the damn thing to time out is what takes all the time, it seems like...

I've been having this issue for about 3-4 days now I think, seems to be getting worse.

It'd be nice if the admins or someone in charge of this type of thing would comment...

Now you tell me...I replaced my router today mainly because of what you're describing.  I was having problems with my VOIP phone too, so not a total waste.

Is anyone looking into this problem?  It is getting worse, and is to the point where it is very hard to use this site at all.  It is VERY similar to the problems that Arfcom had a few years ago when a switch went bad in the server room.

I just noticed something from this thread...all of the people who are reporting problems are from Missouri or Illinois.  Could this be an issue with a Charter DNS or switch in St. Louis?

Thanks cruze5, I have made the switch to OpenDNS as suggested, flushed my DNS cache, and even re-booted my PC just to be thorough.  I'll let you know if it makes a difference after I have used it for a while.

I'll do that too if this fixes the problem.  I have had one bad dropout since I switched, so the jury is still out on whether it will fix the issue.

Thanks cruze5 !
I'm using Opera Browser now, since last night (Sunday 12/28 ... I was out of town and not at home), and it seems to be working alright.
Google Chrome just got to be just as bad as IE.   Before I couldn't access through http://AR15.com and had to search link in and could not use any hot links.
And was a PITA to log in and post.   It would just timeout, like trying to access in and using hot links.  I don't have any issues with any other site, just ARFCOM.
Still a little slow at times and gets stuck now and then.
I just "Stop" and "Refresh" and it goes on, but at least I can surf and read now, and be able to log in without issue and post.  I don't post much.
This is cool enough for me.  I'll just use Opera Browser for ARFCOM.  I need my daily gun porn

Dilbert_556 ... I would not doubt it's Charter.  Charter told me to get another router from them months back as they have upgraded their system and I haven't yet.
I'll change it out in a couple days and see if that's the culprit.
Let us know if OpenDNS works for you.  Thanks!

I'm using a Motorola Surfboard DOCSIS 3 modem, which is the most current that they offer(but I'll check to make sure).  So far the switch to OpenDNS doesn't appear to have fixed the problem...still lots of dropouts and hangs.

I thought DNS could be an issue, so I assigned a few non Charter DNS, same issue...  I also shut off my Wireless and connected to my VZW  ""Hot Spot"" same issue...

That pretty much nails it as being a Charter issue in the St. Louis area (to me anyway).  Thanks for your input centurion971, I really appreciate it.

I'm down in Farmington Mo...

I'm no DNS expert at all, More of a hardware/DOCSIS guy, but I'm wondering what Charter DNS could be doing to cause just ARFcom to have issues with sporadically not loading...  It either loads lightning fast or spools till it times out...

I'm on a ton of other forums and other websites and have been playing the shit outta Xbox live while on vacation and I have no issues with anything other than ARFcom, not loading from time to time...

I don't know what it is either; switching to OpenDns didn't make a difference.  That argues against it being a DNS problem, but it does seem to be centered on the St. Louis area.  Bad/corrupt router table somewhere?...I don't know; I just hope they fix it soon, because this sucks.
