Played a quick 9 in the barn tonight on awesome golf. I’ve only been playing for 1.5 months, so I’m still trying to get the basics down. It’s nice being able to get some time behind the clubs at home.

I have a new ball for the year. The ‘24 TP5X is really fucking good.
Long time ProV1 player and I hated the ‘21 TP5X. I’ve got a few more weeks until I try to qualify for the state amateur. |

Talk to me about wedges.
What lofts, grinds and bounces you making all those greens with? You chip with those too, or grip down on something with less loft? |

View Quote Wedges are a personal preference. I play a 56degree vokey m grind. Callaway jaws look great, but I've not played with them. Played Cleveland for years and really liked them. Bought a pair of Mizuno wedges 10 years ago (can't remember the name), they had some fancy stepped shafts. Did not like the ball flight on full shots and cut bait quickly. Second part of the question is nuanced. It all depends on the shot. Generally I use a 56d around the greens in MI because it suits the conditions. Down in Florida I hit a lot of "chips" with a 3 metal because the lies are tighter on overseeded rye. |

Originally Posted By Tanren37: Talk to me about wedges. What lofts, grinds and bounces you making all those greens with? You chip with those too, or grip down on something with less loft? View Quote A lot of it depends on the lofts of your iron set. For example, I play very traditional lofts with a 49* PW, so I only carry 2 specialty wedges at 54 and 59. My other set has a Vokey in place of the PW but same lofts. Most people tend to prefer higher bounce in the SW and lower bounce in the LW. My SW is 12* bounce and I have LW in 4/8/10 bounce depending on conditions. If you like to open the face around the green, it’s easier with grinds with heel and trailing edge relief. It keeps the leading edge closer to the ground. It’s really obvious in the store which grinds are better at this. If you live in western WA, you’ll probably be better off leaning towards higher bounce for the softer conditions. I probably use my LW for 70% of shots around the green, SW 20%, and something else 10%. |

Tell us more. My high school aged son has been playing for about a year and joined the golf team this year. He has been begging me and my wife to pick up the game so we could all golf together. He took us to play a round of golf at our local 9 hole course toward the end of January. The 3 of us played out of his bag. We all had a great time, but 3 golfers playing out of one bag is kind of difficult. He finally got us interested in the game, then we were gifted some clubs by my wife’s cousin. She got a set of Lady Edge clubs and I was gifted a Wilson bag, 909D3, an Adams 3H, 56* Cleveland and a putter that needed a new grip. I needed a set of irons, so I dove down the YouTube rabbit whole looking for the most forgiving beginner irons and settled on a used set of Ping G410s. This started the disease. I was not satisfied going to the range once a week, so I bought a hitting mat and net to use in the yard. My you tube rabbit hole led me to discover the Garmin R10. I need all the help I can get and live in the middle of nowhere, so I bought it. The 3 of us have had so much fun hitting with that setup and even played our local course on it when we got rained out last weekend. My son was the top golfer on his HS team at his tournament on Tuesday. He said that chipping on the simulator probably helped him the most. |

It’s as easy as setting up a tent. The R10 bluetooths through a smartphone and I just bought a lightning to hdmi adapter to connect it to a tv we weren’t using anymore.
