Alright, I know the first thread we put up here got a little juvenile, and we didn't really give much of a thorough thinking about it, so let me try this in a professional manner. I'd like to suggest a Musicians and Music forum. In my opinion it would play a great role in our community, and would provide a section of discussion on musical theory, genres, instruments, etc., without the casual GD trolling or pointless posts. I know a lot of people here are very serious about their ability to learn an instrument, and myself along with other members would love to help them in specifics instead of making one giant "Guitar Lessons Thread," which non-members couldn't even keep up with. Things that would go in the forum: Discussions of musical genres; introduce new bands, styles, and such to people looking to broaden their musical interests. New music videos Up to date information on tours and concerts Reviews of albums Musical theory Beginners/Intermediate/Professional tutorials for musical instruments On request help for players of all instruments Technical help with instruments On request musical tabbing (If one is interested in learning a song, those of us who are proficient in playing can provide video and ascii tablatures to help in learning) Sharing personal music work Sharing musical covers And tons more, in a forum which members of serious interest would take part in casually. I know that I would dedicate a lot of my time on ARFCOM to helping people learning to play guitar as will many other members. It will be understood that any sort of pirating will be completely prohibited in the forum. So I ask staff once more, to consider a great opportunity for a large number of members. Thanks. |

+1 Not that I have any kind of appreciable post count, but I too would love to have a Music forum. I think it'd be a fun way to discuss music theory, instruments, industry and enjoyment. If not for the musicians of AR15.com, then for those who to aspire to be musicians; a specific place to rant and rave about everything music. http://img.consumating.com/img/up-on.gif |

A music forum could be alot of fun, my musical interests range from George Gershwin to Disturbed. I also am an amateur musician. Tab, playing advice, and general theory/technique discussion, though not gun related, is no less gun related than Cars & Bikes or BOTD. |
| I think that this would be a valuable service to the board as a whole. There are a lot of musicians here at various levels who would enjoy a forum where topics of a musical nature would be consolidated into one area. I also think that it would be beneficial to the firearms community to show that we are not just "gun nuts", but also well rounded creative people. |

1+ Well said, Hemi. I would also add a section on review of musical instruments/hardware/software. Say somebody puts new pickups in their guitar, gets a new rackmount processor or amp or whatever, they could post a review. I know it would help me and others. It makes me curious as to how many fellow musicians really are lurking here on ARFCOM. It'd be cool to find out! |

Thank you for bringing this up again. I'm really hoping we can get a music forum (see sigline). Everyone please keep this mature and civil. I believe a music forum as a subforum of General Discussion would get a lot of traffic and attention. We have a lot of talented musicians here, and an even broader pool of musical tastes. I for one would love to see an organized location for all music threads, and especially informational threads relating to music. Sharing music between members would also be an excellent way to get to know one another, explore new talent, and learn about music we may have never listened to before. If there's anything I can do to get the ball rolling on this, let me know. I really want to see this happen! ETA: Thanks, HC for your continuing perseverance on this topic. I nominate you as Music Forum moderator. Well, I would, but you'd ban me too quickly |

I agree, and humbly ask of our benevolent hosts a Musicians and Music forum. I, and I cannot believe this, have no recollection of that we have ever had one, or that it "self destructed" due to poor behavior. That said, I'm sure that this would not repeat itself, additionally, it is hard to fathom that another forum could possibly exceed the den of debasement that is GD, so what the heck, give it another whirl! |

I wholeheartedly support the concept of a separate (but equal!) forum for musicians. I have a 10 year old who spends at least 2 hours a day with my old acoustic. Now think about what 2 hours of a 10 year olds life is like. Thats like a whole day of old guy time. 2 hours of no video games, no outside playing with the hellion friends, no riding the skateboard...all by his own choice. So, I feel the need to help him learn what I can, and it is running thin. I haven't played in years, so I am about out of tricks. A new forum set aside for music would help me help him. It is for the children. Now, that being said, I would encourage some somewhat heavy handed moderation. Nothing non musician related. Preferrably as little filth as possible, as he may be looking on sometimes. But that is of course up to the individuals. So, music forum, +111eleventy111 Hemi cuda for el presidente del musicos! |

I think a Music/Musician's forum would be a great idea... it seems at least every week I see someone ask a question about music, or learning an instrument. We have a great number of people here who are very helpful... a Music/Musician's forum would help us help eachother! |
|
I'd say it's a damn fine idea. There's lots of people interested in music here and music questions that come up in general discussion all the time, plus it seems alot of musicians. There's a forum for just about everything else, why not a music/musicians forum where other members can help each of out with sharing knowledge and opinions. |

Another Vote here. It would allow us to share our musical tastes with others. By sharing I do not mean file sharing but just suggesting certain types of music some people haven't even considered listening to. Big +1 Carter. PS: And yes the previous post got a little out of hand so I hope this one stays on a professional level. |

I've been playing guitar pro/semi-pro in clubs for 20+ years. This site has a photography forum (I've been known to browse as well). So considering there are more musicians and audiophiles than photographers... why not have a forum and alleviate some traffic on the GD? In other words... another vote for a Music-related forum here... |
I added a lot of songs to my Ipod that I'd forgotten about till perusing that thread. If we get a second chance, I personally promise to be on my best behavior.
