Attached File A bunch of bread knives rough cut and routed to final shape. Edges got rounded over too. Still need finish sanding, oiling, and blades mounted. |

Should be nice bread knives when you get the finish on! Never heard of this wood. Angelim Pedra. Very powdery to turn but works nice and achieves a great finish. Axe paste and Mylan friction polish. About 5 x 2. Attached File Attached File Attached File |

My try at art! 3D winters night Made the moon from a mappa blank. Turned and hollowed on the lathe. Made the bushes from one piece of maple and then split in half with the band saw. (forgot to grab a pic) The tree is a random branch I found on the ground. Attached File Attached File |

 My first foray into end grain cutting boards. I understand the milling/gluing/cutting etc steps now and am happy with my joinery. I will need to pay closer attention to the “patterns” though. I just wanted to figure out how to put them together this go around and I learn a lot my by doing a batch of projects and varying technique slightly on each rather than one at a time. I used the Argentine hardwood I bought a few weeks ago. The lighter colored stuff is, I believe, Guatambu. It is quite dense and takes a nice finish but the color doesn’t do much for me. The darker wood is Louro Preto and I think it’s a much more attractive wood. The individual pieces however, looked very similar in color before finishing but picked up a lot more contrast one I applied oil. |

Alligator juniper hollow form with African blackwood finials. Friction polish finish. 2 inch diameter by about 6 long. Juniper block was cracked in numerous places so this will go on our own tree. Attached File |

Couldn't find the tree I wanted so I made one. About 35 high by 18 wide. turned the top and base along with all 12 ornaments. Front and back shown. Still a work in progress. Need to do something with the ornament holders for the circle parts. Plywood tree. Attached File |

I received the one in the last image today and it’s amazing! It will go well on our Christmas tree for many, many years to come as the family really appreciates unique and different ornaments that sort of depict our history. We don’t use sets of ornaments from the store, but one off’s that have been handed down from generation to generation. I am truly thankful as it will be a reminder of 2025 and my foray into woodworking.

 I wanted to make gifts for the folks in my S shops so I banged out a bunch of these today. Easy enough to mill down some of the shorter but thick pieces of rough cut lumber I had sitting around. I cut the long ends at 45 deg with my miter saw and the sides to 25 with the table saw. I was going to add feet but don’t think that will add much other than more time spent on the build. I’ll hit them with 600 grit tomorrow and add one or more two coats of oil/wax. Chop sticks are Wenge. |

 The different angles on the long vs short ends gave the pieces a more “Asian” vibe in my opinion. I’d planned to dovetail feet on each of them but not enough time and a few to many folks I want to recognize for all their hard work. |

All, beautiful work! It’s a gift to be able create items like that. Dumb question, is there a list posted anywhere in the thread of folks who are able to take orders for custom work? I subbed to this thread ages ago after seeing a post in GD where someone was asking about a tier one wooded cutting board maker. Someone replied with link to this thread asking why buy from William Sonoma or somewhere when there are plenty of members here that make better stuff. I totally spaced I had this subbed until I got the wife’s Christmas list this morning  I have a couple of small items in mind that would make both her and our adult son smile on Christmas morning if the possibility is there. Thanks!! |

 Got some food grade wax on them and ordered some small soy sauce bowls from Amazon. Easy project as there was no joinery. |

I figured it would be too late for something, but also didn't want any sort COC violation with selling stuff not on the EE or having a vendor account or something. I’ll go through a bunch more posts and come up with some ideas for next year. I don’t want to be that guy who’s behind the curve and some unreasonable expectation. I get enough of that crap at work

Did you get the finial that narrow on the first attempt? It seems like any imperfections in the grain would make it come apart on the lathe. Also, the maple has really beautiful color/tone. Is that just from the degree of polish or was the wood just out of the ordinary in a good way? And I’m working on more sushi boards. The first ones were so well received that I’ve been guilted into making more (in leu of the range trip I’d had planned for this weekend) |

Scary when trying to get it that thin! Color is in the wood. It will eventually fade if it gets to much sun. Nice that they like your work so much they want more! |

Rockler has Nova Comet 14 DR lathes on sale with an additional 50% off. Brought it down to $300. Shipping was supposedly “free” but there was an additional $100 fee foe delivery. $400 delivered and I jumped on it. It will be waiting for me when I get home in a month or so and I can try my hand at turning. Anyone have experience with this particular lathe? |

Nice! Nova makes some very nice lathes. Don't want to discourage you but I ordered from Rockler. I was looking for a Nova Nebula lathe but it would have taken almost a year wait. Let's hope yours goes quicker! Ended up with a bigger, heavier machine so made out in the end. |
