I maidened my P-51 Strega after dragging my feet on this plane for over 1 year for no real reason. I typically finish a plane in a couple of weeks yet unpacked this one Oct last year and it just sat untouched until recently. Success!! Except for a minor engine tuning issue I need to take care of before the next flight. A friend luckily captured some video since my camera ended up being aimed too high and I captured none myself. Sweet landing! So nice to see a new airplane that doesn’t sound like the Jetsons car flying by. Went out to visit my local club two weeks ago. Two guys had really nice giant scale electric T-28’s. Both were identical so I’m assuming they were ARF planes. They looked great and flew great. But there just something missing without the sound of an ICE. It was kind of cool watching one guy drop his flaps and practically hovered in a head wind. Watching that made me decide to build my swizzle stick with flaps.

Watching that made me decide to build my swizzle stick with flaps. 90% of my planes are electric and I actually prefer them for the shear convenience of tossing in a battery and getting into the air. However for me when it gets into larger scale planes the sound just isn't right. The planes with big radial engines are especially sweet but are currently just out of my price range. I'm new to these two stroke gas engines and my past two that includes this one are giving me tuning issues but I will get them straightened out. I had no choice but to get this one on the ground right then or else I doubt I could have made another go around. The fact it was a sweet landing was icing on the top however! It was a much longer flight than what his video shows since it was hard seeing this plane yesterday in a view finder. Bummed I had my DJI hat camera on wrong. |

I have been extremely happy with all (and that's quite a few) of my Phoenix Model planes. They all fly great! The 80in P-40 that I have is known to be the best flying P-40 out there and I can agree. My later childhood could be described as the smell, and occasionally the taste, of nitro. I recall before having my own nitros, I'd watch a guy come to the community center behind our house and fly his nitro helicopter. I was captivated by that nitro heli (a Futura, it turned out). Years later, I was brave enough to walk up to him and talk with him, and told him about my rc cars. He was a polite, middle aged guy, maybe 40-45. He said I have a new nitro Rustler, we can drive around together sometime. And we did a couple times, and eventually we became unlikely friends. My mom asked if he was a pedo lol. In hindsight it was certainly weird that an 11 year old would be friends with a 45ish year old. He eventually said that he had a buddy that was selling a trainer plane if I was interested. I had my first flying experience and he taught me to solo the summer I was 12. I could fly helis (hovering) on a sim (OG Realflight) too but could never even hope to afford one. Now I'm all grown up and have six helicopters.

He died right before I graduated without my knowledge, and I found out when his family sent me some graduation money because they knew we'd been good friends. I miss Bob. I’ve got an Ace 4-20 framed up with a Saito .30 in it. It was going to be my reintroduction trainer. But I’ve decided to go a little bigger and slower. Balsa USA Swizzle stick is on the bench right now. Saito .56 for power. Same plane I learned to fly with back in ‘87. I use to hover it and fly backwards in a good headwind. I’m putting flaps on this one. |

Built this little manger for my wife's nativity figurines. I still have to weather the wood at the cuts and put some straw in/(on) it but she likes it. Made from old fence boards Attached File Attached File |

Dump in spray bottle and spray the manger and leave it out in the sun to dry. In a few hours it will look naturally aged. Apply more for darker aging. Scroll to the top of the page and look at the wine bottle holder I built. I used pre-primed wood then sanded most of it off. Sprayed it with the mix and you can see the aging it did. |

I have a couple 1/35 builds that are in different stages of incomplete. Plus working on a big 1/6 scale Kubelwagen from Dragon Models. I'm staring at the dozen or so Costco black and yellow tubs in the closet, full of scale models, resisting the temptation to not start another model without finishing the ones I already have. on the workbench. This one just needs decals. RFM Models T-55A Mod 1981. One of the many kits I enjoy slapping together. |

Just finished laminating the TBRC spec wing. Once it's done, I'll start on the Warlock, which I painted up like a WWII fighter. Should be cool I'll post pics when it's done.

Hobby shop down on the PA border is having a really good sale. This store has more inventory than the last time I was in there. So, I bought these... Attached File This is the store. Not really my hobby bench but the other day I dug out a little of a fairly massive amount of HO trains I have an cleared out enough room on our dining room table that is home for many of my wife’s plants for winter. I wanted to let my grandsons see some of what will be theirs one day. I’d love to build a proper layout but there is just no room in my home that is overflowing with just about everything. Hopefully we will buy or build a much larger home than my current 3,000 sq ft with a large detached garage or something to have a good place to set one up. Attached File |
