The desire to get Submariner grows in my mind, but I've kept it at bay with seikos...and all the usual reasons not to get one.
Is it wrong to want to get a decent clone? I'm speculating that a decent one will put this to bed. This may be an affront to the purists, but reality comes into play some times. Shoot me a PM if you have a good vendor. |

I guess it's my swamp yankee reasoning...I don't need 5k hanging on my wrist and don't want to pay 500 for a oil/adj. Is there some element of vanity? Maybe.
If the quality is on par w Seiko, than I'd just run it and enjoy. I have stuff I don't & wouldn't wear (Benrus Series, vintage omegas) I don't really want to beat a Rolex at work or have it sit in a drawer. |

It's a sad fact...wear a fake or a poser watch....real owners just laugh at you. Why set yourself up for ridicule? Either get the real thing and achieve your goal or just toss a $19.99 Timex on. The Timex will keep time just as well. I'm a Rolex owner and it feels terrific to finally get the iconic time piece. No one ever politely walked up to me and complimented my Timex, but they do on my Rolex. Life is short so make the best of it. A word of advice...There's two guys trying to pick up a girl who is a class act. One wears a Rolex and the other has a Timex, all other things are equal. She knows what her choice is going to be..... Unfortunately that's life. Where do you want to be? wearing a Timex? Life can be cruel, do the best you can.

If you can afford a Rolex, get one. If you can't, several companies make nice homages. Get a Squale. No issues with readability but mine is the newer ceramic sub 116610 that has an anti glare coating under cyclops ......squale is a solid choice at a fraction of the cost |

Many great steel case and bracelet black-dialed divers out there that can scratch the itch for far less coin than a Rollie. But nothing quite scratches the itch as the true deal.
End of the day, a knock-off might look 98% of the way there and have the correct logo imprint, but in your mind it won't sit the same as the genuine article... it also won't have the quality, resale value and arguably the purchase of a knock-off supports various criminal organizations worldwide and I prefer to keep my support of cartels to the absolute minimum. With the pricing on the entry level Swiss made homage watches... Squalle, Steinhart etc I see no reason a reasonable person would go to the fake market. |

Buy once, cry once. While not a Rolex I bought my dream watch (Omega Seamaster Pro GMT) a few years back and wear it far more than anything else. While I still do wear other watches occasionally I always go back to my Omega. If you truly want a submariner than go authentic. Don't settle for a homage or a fake. Only you can know if you'll still be in love with that watch a few years down the road.
Something my dad told me when I started getting into watches was "Sure you can have a lot of watches the cost a few hundred bucks (or more) a pop. Or you can have one really good watch that will turn heads and open doors." My first watch real watch was my Omega. Worth every red cent. |

Homages are cool. Fakes are for fake people. If you really really want a Sub you can pick one up on the used market for a pretty discount. What's your budget?
FYI, Tudor makes authentic divers that go for about half the price - see the Black Bay and Prince Oysterdate. |

I bought my first Sub in 1978 and still own it. I paid $600 then and that was a lot of money for any watch at that time. Life has been pretty good to me, and I bought a gold Day/Date in the 80's and about 11 years ago I got a new 18K Sub. It's my daily wearer since then.
I sold the Day/Date for what I paid for it, and my old stainless Sub in the safe is probably worth 5-8 times what I paid for it. I'm pretty sure I could at least break even on the gold Sub by now. Think of it as a nice watch and an investment. |

As someone posted above the Seamaster are a good compromise, but still not a Rolex. Ball is also a US brand that has sever nice dive watches for a reasonable price. You can also check out Oris and Sinn who have reasonable dive watches.
Check out Explorer II for between 3,500 and 4,000 if you want to itch the Rolex bug for cheaper. |

fucking pile of shit hardly describes the abomination that it is. but it was cheap, and buddy got a chuckle-- and wears the stupid thing out to nice dinners....lol |

I had a friend pick me up a fake when he went to China for work, cost $20 and that is what it is worth. Pretty nice quality for the money, but I doubt you could find one that cheep though. It was fun to wear when my another friend of mine would try to impress others with it, he was that type. Also, his may impress the ladies, but not if they found out the only reason he had it was because of all the investments he liquidated from his late wife. She was a nice woman who would not approve of his spending, but oh well. |
