To get to what I am after I will try to keep this short.

Because we now have a dedicated watch forum I have been looking at watches a lot more than usual.  I have always loved watches and appreciated the time and detail that goes into a good watch.  However, I never wear a watch.  I did for a short time when I was younger but stopped and have not done it since.  Now that I am older, and supposedly wiser, I want to start wearing a watch.  Now, the wife has taken notice of my watchcapades and has told me she is buying me a watch and not taking no for an answer.  So, after the past two weeks of doing pretty much nothing else but taking in all things watch I have narrowed it down to these two.

Hamilton Jazzmaster Auto Chrono

Hamilton Aviation Auto Chrono

I was going to be all set on the Aviation but the Jazzmaster keeps talking in my ear.  The only problem I have with the Jazzmaster is that it seems to be more of a suit and tie watch.  I don't wear a suit on a regular basis. Hardly ever.

Honestly, I'll probably go with the Aviation.  But before I did i wanted to get the watch forums opinion.  Is the Jazzmaster too "dressy" or do you think it is good for everyday wear?  Also I saw the Jazz in person today, although on a bracelet.  It's a damn nice watch.  I cannot find the Aviation anywhere around Cincinnati to see it.

Ah, a real question.  Has anyone ordered from Jomashop.com?

Thanks for the input.

Both of them are too busy for my taste, I like the looks of this one.  Of course I know that is no help at all.

If you think those are busy take a look at the Khaki X-Wind .  That was the the first Hamilton watch I looked at and it brought me to these two.

I should have mentioned I was specifically looking for auto movement, chrono, with display back.  The Aviation is slightly over the budget but I can work that one out.

They are both nice watches with good movements, so I don't think you'll be unhappy there. I think both are definitely attractive watches, and I also agree that the jazzmaster is often going to feel, at least, a touch over casual. They have a few other chronos I like as well, though. Have you seen them all?

Before going with one, though, my advice is to give it time and let it "marinade". Don't rush it. Over a month or two you'll go through some changes in taste, to some degree, I'd bet.

I really like Hamiltons, and my nicest watch is the Pilot Pioneer chronograph. I really like it a lot.

And I think most people probably do fine with jomashop. It's "grey" market, I believe, so no factory warranty... But I think your chances are good you won't have a problem. I've not heard of anything non-authentic from them yet.

I am pretty sure I have seen every watch in Hamilton's catalogue.  I understand what you are saying about giving it time.  I thought the X-Wind was the one but the more I looked at it the less I liked it.  When I saw it in person today I was damn glad I didn't rush into it.  Of all the brands and styles I have looked at I keep coming back to these two.

Hamilton Aviation Auto Chrono would be my first choice and Jomashop is GTG.

IMHO

Sounds like you've thought about it.
I'd just Google or search for pictures of each on different straps, assess what you think is going to work more often than the other in terms of styling, and just go with your gut.
The more "conservative" of the two, to you, may stay best in your taste over the long haul... Or so I've found.

Thanks for the replies.  I suppose I never really had a question of which watch should I buy as it is a pretty personal choice.  Nobody I know is into watches and your opinions have been great.  Maybe we can turn this into a Hamilton pic thread.
