I knew this was going to be about the UK diver who just died on the Doria.

I want to do deeper wrecks eventually, but the Doria has no attraction for me.

RIP Steve.

The Doria is a nasty dive, even before penatration is involved.....

I would have loved to go when I was more young and fit, (and the wreck was in better shape) but not now that i know a little better.....

The article was very light on details - maybe they will come out later.

Gear failure?

Medical emergency?

Accident of some sort?

What makes the Doria an especially daunting dive, even for a pro?

Depth, current, distance from shore if something goes wrong.

http://njscuba.net/sites/site_andrea_doria.php - this link has interesting info on how the Doria has deteriorated over the years.

I've got Setting the Hook a book on diving the Doria, on my Kindle that I still have to read.

For a really good book that looks at the dangers of deep diving, Shadow Divers, about the discovery and identification of a U-boat off New Jersey. I had lots of non-divers recommending the book to me.

John Chatteron on diving the Doria (he was one of the divers who discovered U-Who).

Another book for those interested in diving the Doria; Andrea Doria: Dive to an Era by Gary Gentile

These guys recovered her bell and brought home some awesome treasures.

The NJ Gorilla Divers did/do exist. I've seen them with my own eyes!
