Been on the fence about grabbing a Brinyte DIV08.
I've heard good things about it, the output is pretty great, looks like a sturdy piece of kit, but it's a little bulky.
Also thought about picking up a Tovatec... either this
or this,
The Brinyte seems to be the best for the price and output though. I just have to hope it's not like carrying a Maglight underwater. I have a few Underwater Kinetics lights, but they're more for night diving and definitely not compact enough to keep on my harness. |

I have a couple canister Dive Rite lights I like but picked up a BX1 from them when they launched. It's an ok light output but built very well as is all their stuff. Main gripe I have is the switch is a bit finicky and it will eat through the AAA's pretty quick but it does ok.
I have no experience with the Brinyte stuff. |

Short of wreck or cavern diving (were no moon light can get to), I have found it best to night dive without using lights.
Your eyes will adjust to the low light conditions, and if you do use lights, your eyes take about 20 mins before they will adjust to the low lighting again (the whole pirate patch over one eye so if you have to go under deck, you just pull the patch and you can see with that eye in low lighting). As for if you do need lighting, then forgo the small lights, and get something on the bigger side that will throw a large wide flame. As stated, your going to night blind yourself for around 20 mins before your eyes readjust after turning the lights off, so with using a lights, you need something that will throw a lighting wide enough, and long enough for the whole dive. Trust is, short of needing something to check in cracks and crevices during a day dive ( if you are sure that you want to know what is hiding in such before you shove your hand in and find a rock fish just waiting to teach you what "shit your pants pain" is), then a smaller light would work fine if you can find somewhere on your BC to secure it with a stretch cord so you can leave it snapped on. I state this since on most of my dives such as wrecks, I end up taking my BC off to shove it in first when going through small openings, and having something dangling from my wrist will just get snagged on something on the way through. |

I'm not really looking to get a cannister at this point. It's grossly excessive for my needs right now. Something small, affordable, and bright is what I'm looking for. Look at the BX1, it's the size you want. Pelican makes some good affordable stuff but I've found they're QC is hit or miss. |

Thinking about going through Alibaba.com and getting about 10-20 of the Brinyte DIV08 lights and selling them off where I live. People dive all the time where I am and the shopping options are limited so I could probably make out pretty well.
DRIS sells one branded by UTD called the VIZ 15 The specs are off on it but it's definitely the same light, but >$150 more than what I'll spend on it. |

Wife just picked up an Atorch TC05 60-850 lumen dive light from our LDS a few hrs ago, but haven't gotten to try it out yet. was $95 http://www.abyss.com.au/scuba/pc/catalog/torch_1194_general.jpg I have the 1000 lumen back up light from DRIS, and it is bright as hell. A bit heavy, nice beam/spill pattern. was $89 http://www.diverightinscuba.com/catalog/media/catalog/product/cache/4/image/450x450/0dc2d03fe217f8c83829496872af24a0/1/0/1000lumensidepic1.png I have a couple of those DRIS 1k lights. They aren't small, but they are great lights and make nice ballast clipped to the shoulder D rings of a Hogarthian harness. |

My only problem with a lot of the lights they show on their site is there's no size reference. I figured the short was small... then I looked for some pictures of it being held and realized it's kind of bulky. http://i1.ytimg.com/vi/KRykOlyHUZw/maxresdefault.jpg I guess it's fine if you have it in the Goodman strap, but I don't think I'd want that big chunker dangling off my harness. For me it's always function over form. I got three DRIS lights (my family dives with me) and while large they have been used/abused heavily and hold up great. I have intova lights, uk lights, and others and I like the big clunky DRIS lights better than any of my more compact ones. They throw a hell of a beam, too much for night videography. |

The Light Monkey 3W LED Backup is what you're looking for.
Machined from a solid rod of Delrin. LED, tight beam, nice and bright. Twist the head to turn it on/off. The only failure point is the head, which is double o-ring sealed. No buttons to break or leak underwater. Uses (3) C-cell batteries. I have a 4.5ah Halcyon Helios 10w HID, a 13.5ah Halcyon Helios 18w HID, (2) Photon-Torpedo LEDs, (2) Photon-Torpedos, and (1) Halcyon backup light. I might have too many lights.
