Left a mech mod on my desk last night with a kayfun on it I had just rebuilt and filled.  This morning Its got drool down the side and I think damn it leaked. It had activated in the night although the switch ring was screwed tight. It was emply and the mod was melted inside and the Sony vtc5 was deader than hell, wont charge. The center pin in the switch had unscrewed enough to make a high resistance contact to the bottom of the battery apparently.

Thinking I should locktite it.

Now I have to ask..

You did mention the word "Dremel".

Tell me you didn't perform your own "sear polishing"..

This!

Seriously though, I am super paranoid about leaving a battery in my mech.  I've read so many things about how batteries can explode that I'm OCD about it.

In fact....

did I remember to take that batter....

crap I've got to go home....

One in the middle
No Dremel. Not modified

I am using it right now with an RDA

It melted the insulator out of the kayfun and I just ordered some. It will live again.

It only takes about a 1/32 inch push to activate it or about 1/2 to 3/4 of a thread in the bottom post. I will never leave a battery in it again. Loctite will cure unscrewing the bottom post as you use it.

Who makes that clone?

I'm not trying to be an ass, but I wouldn't even use it if you can't get it to setup correctly. That gap at the top is unacceptable, and 1/32" throw is way too little.

Well, if I'm doing it wrong let me know.

Thanks.

This has all been a long trip for me. I started with Apollo junk and moved up. I made 400ml plus of 18mg 30/70 pg/vg and 100 10mg 100%vg to drip Sunday.
I don't smoke anymore. I don't even dream about it anymore.

I have a couple computer-driven chargers that may be able to "repair" the VC5. Can't promise of course, so it may not be worth the shipping.

Can you tell if it's "puffed"?

It wasn't puffed but I destroyed it. I do RC also and have some Idea of what a lithium cell can do when it's bad. It's not worth the trouble.

Thanks though. More are in the mail.

I have no desire what so ever to smoke a cigarette, but I'll be damned if I dont want to pull out the pack, open it, take out a cigarette, put it in my mouth and light it. I cant even stand to be around it anymore. It fucking stinks so bad, I have literally almost puked a few times in the last couple weeks.

So i received the mod in today's mail.

Here's how i set mine up.

First thing i did was removed the contact pin from the top cap, then i screwed my kayfun on and then replaced the center pin, screwing it in until it just touched the center pin of the Kayfun.
(The center pin was installed with the slot facing towards the atty. This is tits useless IMO. So i flipped it around so i can adjust the pin TO my atty and have a slot to use a driver of finger nail on if needed.)

Then i screwed that assembly onto the tube, without having anything else installed on the tube.

Next, insert the battery.

And finally, screw the switch assembly into the tube until snug. VERY IMPORTANT. Do not over tighten.. this does not need to be "farmer tight".

Oh look!!!! I have a gap too. Mine's at the bottom (between the tube and the brass of the switch) due to the way i setup my mods.

Now on some mods like the Nemesis and Stingray, you have a locking ring that threads on the tube not built into the switch. Those styles don't show a gap because the switch threads into the tube which allows for some variation in battery length.
This gap on this mod, i don't like at all. So here's my plan, i can either:
Send it back.
Deal with it.
Pass it along (Hey noob guy, you deal with this).
Or correct the problem.

For those who are mechanically inclined, you should already know what I'm going to do.

The top pin needs a trim. Basically I'm going to shave ~1/16" off the pin's length.

And obviously.. I'll not be shaving the side with the slot. Might need that for adjusting to my atty's.

Be back in a few.. Time for the sander, and dinner.

but,but you said no Dremel tool. I already inverted the screw and have the gap at the bottom. Very carefully measure the gap. There is no extra throw in the switch. Locktite the screw.

Well yeah.. But that can be changed by using a thinner washer.

And hell yes!! Loctite the screw on this crappy design.

ETA: Fixed my hunger driven hurr durr moment.

Take the washer out. It wont turn on. Do not shave the bottom post. Shave the top one to remove the gap. You want the battery to move upward in the tube.

Dremeled the non slotted end of the upper post. Gap is gone.

That's exactly what i did.

Except i found a nut that the post threaded into so i could use my vice and sanding block to go just a little at a time.

And yup.. No gap, and everything is nice and tight. I tested it with 6 different tanks, all sit perfect with no battery rattle.

Moral of the story is, unload your mod when not in use, and don't rely on your mechanical safety.. (Sounds familiar right?)

And if you want a Caravela... Get a clone NOT made by Hcigar/fasttech unless you're willing to tinker a bit.

Only thing i don't like about the EHpro is it's sectional.

Replied to IM.

I suppose Ehpro could have changed up their tubes, would make sense for them to do so. They had the ugly duckling previously.
