I decided to write this book because there isn't a single, free, detailed explanation of the basic principles of aquaponics available. There are certainly websites and books that describe aquaponics and go into some detail. But during my search for information, I never found a single source that tied it all together in a way that I felt a reader would walk away with a thorough understanding of the principles involved.
Why is this this understanding important? The most common, and usually fatal, mistakes made almost always reflect a lack of understanding of how an aquaponics system works. While learning from your mistakes can be a valuable teacher, learning from other people's mistakes is even better, and doesn't unnecessarily waste time and resources. Should problems arise, it will also make trouble-shooting much easier than for those with only a superficial knowledge of how the system works.
