As you all know, each year the Grand presiding officer will often have a pin, coin or some other doodad for "his" year. It will have "his" name and "his" year on it to commemorate "his" wonderfulness.
I absolutely despise the "his" year thing. It's not "my" anything. I told the Grand Officers that if I ever said "my year", to punch me in the mouth. I've mentioned before that through some odd circumstances, which won't be discussed here, I will serve as Most Illustrious Grand Master for 9 months of my predecessor's term and then my own. That is if the delegates are foolish enough to elect me in June. So, in essence it will be 2 years in the papa bear chair. No one has done a pin for Grand Council since 1998. I wanted to do something that a Companion could have and proudly wear forever; without my name on it. So, I designed one and they came in on Monday. I wanted it to convey a motto, or theme if you will, without it being corny or cliche`. Since "Forward" is the Wisconsin state motto it seemed appropriate. Hopefully, forward is the direction we will go. For a change. In the finest Arfcom tradition; yes, that is my foot. What do you think?

Awesome. Good on you for not getting caught up in the "MY" year. The pin is beautiful and will be cherished I am sure. Many WMs in my district do this also, they create a Lodge pin and place the year on it. Last year I served as WM for my Lodge, I wanted to gets gifts for the Installation Team, the line and so forth. I wound up getting 100 pins made that just had our Lodge name on it and a Masonic Square Compass and G in the center. It worked out well, handed them out to all the Brothers at the installation and gave them to visiting Brethren and when a Brother was raised. The incoming Master was able to order more and since I paid the striking fee, they were much less. Many of the wives actually took me aside and asked if I would give them a pin to put up. Of course I complied. My daughter put one with the CPO anchor I gave when I was frocked. Fr. Br / Comp. Mike |
