My petition has been accepted and I am waiting to hear from the lodge secretary on the date for the next step.

I understand that I have lots of learning to do.  I would appreciate any advice on how to make sure I proceed successfully without driving my coach nuts.

Just let it happen.  Nothing in Freemasonry is done in a hurry.

Fear no danger.

Two ears.  Two eyes.  One mouth.

Use them proportionally.

Everyone will be happy to help you.  They aren't worried about you bugging them too much.  They are worried about you not bugging them at all.

For me, the memory work was easier if I sung it as I learned it. Not so much giving inflection but more of a percussion rhythm to it.

Don't bother to look for the memory work on the Internet.  It's mostly wrong and will make it harder to learn it correctly.

When studying with your teacher, take it slowly.  When you leave, continue to recite the work;  don't get on the phone and leave the radio off. Commuting time is  for practicing. Shower time is for practice.  Any time you are alone is for practice.

If you make an appointment, show up on time.

Repeat, repeat, repeat.

If your petition vote was favorable, the only thing you have to do for your initiation is to show up in the manner required.

After your initiation is when you will either get a cypher to learn as an aid when you're not with your coach or you will have to meet with a coach/mentor often if your jurisdiction is mouth to ear.

Each state has a different obligation/catechism to learn so like others have said, do not read anything on the net to get a head start.

Don't worry about learning stuff. We want you to learn it. We do not want you to fail. Enjoy it. You are about to make friends - brothers - for life.

Spot on with this observation. Good people!
