| I've been considering joining for a few years now. The main thing standing in the way at the moment is lodge selection. There are several in my area that are convenient for me, and none of my friends or relatives (living) are masons to lead me to choose one over another. The problem I'm mulling over at the moment is that I am hoping to buy my first house by the end of the year, and there is no guarantee that I will even live in the same county by the time all is said and done. I understand that if a man becomes a mason in one location he is a mason everywhere, but if I were to petition for membership at one lodge and then move, would going to a different lodge afterward cause any issues? |
| If you're talking about the same state it doesn't matter a bit. A different state could mean some subtle differences that would require some extra work. If you have no ties at all to any lodge I would pick the one closest to your current residence. When you move you can decide whether or not you want to transfer your membership or become a dual or plural member depending what Indiana allows. Good luck in your petition. |

For choosing an initial lodge, I would go meet the members of each. Every lodge has a different make-up of members. You may find you identify better with the members of a particular lodge (based on age, employment, interests, etc.)
Moving is not an issue if you have completed your degree work. In UT you need a bit more paperwork to move lodges if you haven't been raised yet. |

This will give you a chance to get o know the brothers before you petition. In fact we are trying to plan one at a local range :) |
