we had a new ea tonight.we get plenty of candidates.but it seems we are still losing members faster than we get them in mostly old age.its a shame.250 members and only 15 show up on avrage.why pay dues and not go.I have been the tyler for 2 years and i still see members who i have never met before.

i have found men come and go as their lives change. one thing that always struck me was that these men still paid dues for 50+ years even if they couldn't participate. that says a lot to me. they found something of value here.

Many of the members at my Lodge have gone on to the YR & SR & Shrine, and continue to be active there...

Many of the members at my Lodge are so old and frail they can barely make it up the front steps into the Lodge...

Many of the members at my Lodge are so old they're in hospice care on their deathbeds and STILL insist upon renewing their memberships...

They definitely found some value in their Lodge!

We have about 400-500 members, but only about 30 actively attend - including officers.

We have a lot more "check" masons than active members.  Not sure many of our lodges would survive without them paying dues every year.  How much more could we do if they were active though?

We get tons of new applicants, but not all come to the meetings. I was raised June 22, 2011 and started in a chair at the Aug stated meeting. From then to the new year we did  5 degrees a month,

In Jan of this year we did 10, Feb there were 8 and next month there will be 9.  We spend an ton of time at the lodge, at practice, at school of instruction and it really sucks knowing that its our duty to  make these men masons, but we know some wont come back that much.  This year we are starting to assign experienced Brothers to new Masons, kinna like a Big Brother program. Its purely a volunteer program, but it is working.

one thing to keep in mind... time for younger guys is a premium. between jobs and families many have little spare time in todays world. we have many ea's that come to lodge as much as possible but we still end up file for advancement petitions because they didn't have the time to learn it that year. as long as they are trying doing what they can continue to encourage them.

Most lodges around me now require some type of program to be done every meeting, history lecture etc. guys get bored when it's just a buisness meeting all the time . Many new brothers will, come every week if you give them a reason. We could still do better but at least I'm seeing some of the new faces at meetings now.
Old timers told me that back in the fiftys lodge was also boring because they were exhausted from just doing degree work every meeting . Tough to find a good balance but at least we're seeing petitions all the time could be worse.
