From what I've gathered in the few meetings, I should learn some of the Arts & Sciences.
Not saying go get a degree in something but maybe a better understand of how the world works.

Am I being to literal with this?

It's from the 2nd degree charge.

The study of the liberal arts and sciences (traditional liberal, not the new fangled commie liberal definition) has always been the backbone of a well grounded education. Studying geometry and mathematical sciences gives you a deeper understanding of the world around us. Studying philosophy, literature and other "liberal arts", improves the mind and gives a greater understanding and wider perspective of human culture.

Keep an open mind. If you take it as an admonishment to pick up a calculus book or read Socrates and Plato...do it. If you take it as a directive to improve upon your mind in all areas by simple introspection....then do what your heart leads you to do.

Incidentally, this is my recommendation to all men, not just Masons. Your education doesn't end when you leave school, just as it isn't over when you are Raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason.

I've taken notice of this, the words used at varying degrees have a meaning & or definition.
One thing leads to another & I've a Masonic bible & 2 history books in front of me.
I fear my mind has been idle for too long, becoming a FM has gotten my mind active about certain things again.

you are charged with basically studying the classic liberal arts that were considered the foundation of an educated man. by being educated you are better equipped to serve yourself, your family and your god.

this should be literal study and to some degree symbolic study. Anciently only the priest of the temple were educated. they were required to have a knowledge of astronomy and be literate. this allowed them to predict the seasons for planting and gave them the first glimpses into the makeup of the universe.

Geometry has multiple studies. the formal study of shapes and their mathematical relationships, as well as the esoteric.

The ancients used a "science" of "sacred geometry" to study the relationship of symmetry in nature and to try and understand the divine creation of the world and all things in it. While we do not teach nor believe in those principles any longer it is used to give us an understanding of where our source of learning and knowledge comes from. In understand the what and why of our ancient ancestors beliefs we get a better understanding of where our beliefs originate.

by studying the relationships in nature we can get a better understanding of ourselves and grow spiritually as well. We open our eyes to the beauty of nature and the grand creations given to us by deity.

this is a subject you could literally spend years researching.

Mankind can not grow as a society if we forget our past and what we have learned along the way.

i am not even remotely going to say i have this right, but that is what i personally learned along my travels.
