Can you physically carry more 9mm or 5.56?

Might be important in a zombie situation if you're on the move.

I don't have a digital scale to back my theory up, but lets assume 55 gr. 5.56 and 115 gr. 9mm.  Theres  a little more than twice the lead in the 9, but the 5.56 has a heavier case and powder charge.  I suspect by the time it was all said and done, you could carry virtually the same number of rounds weight-wise, though the 5.56 would be bulkier.  Give me the 5.56 just for the extended engagement range over the 9mm. YMMV.

You should do what I did. Go to amazon.com and order some sherpas.

Those little buggers can carry a shit ton of anything. And, if things really get bad, they can drag you up Mt. Everest.
Best money I ever spent.

If you don't want sherpas, then your answer is:

On my vest I can carry 240 rounds of Hornady 5.56 TAP 75gr T2 in 8 30 round mags and 108 rounds of Gold Dot 9mm 124gr +P JHP in 6 18 round mags.  Best of both worlds

How much does the Tactical Wheelbarrow hold?

I would say 5.56, because your biggest threat could be other survivors who don't want to play nice. And they could be wearing armor or be behind cover pistol ammo won't penetrate, or past the lethal range of 9mm. If you need to take out zombies up close,  just use your pistol.

Since weight is just about the same, go with what is easier to carry.  Most pistol mags are around 15rds, most 5.56 mags come in 30rd'ers.  With all the LBE and mag pouches avaible for AR's, I'd go the 5.56 route.  But, too each his own

ETA:  I will add that the question you should be asking isn't which you can carry more of, but which round count is higher at a given weight.  For example: I plan to carry 10 - 12 lbs of ammo, would I have more rounds in either 5.56 AR mags, or 15rd 9mm Beretta?

Actually I was thinking more sub-gun vs carbine, I wasn't really thinking pistols. Having said that the sub-gun route would give you commonality with handguns.

Go with 5.56, longer range and accuracy for head shots on Zombies.

Same concept, what two weapons are you comparing?
