In order to have a proper forum for discussion's we should have a sticky listing all the proper terms to the living impaired. Such as re animated vs infected, if we as a scientific body are going to discuss the subject we should use a common vocabulary.

How do you mean exactly?

There are two ways of reanimating corpses as zombies. Viral and magical (Voodoo, Witchcraft, etc). Since we're preparing for a mass scale outbreak I think we'd be more focused on the viral created ones, unless sleeper cells of voodoo practitioners are spreading throughout the world ha.

A- Necrozombie, Human dead, turned to undead, by means of witchcraft or voodoo. NZs will normally be slow moving, but have a purpose and are controlled by a Living human master. Generally if bitten by a NZ you will not turn undead, unless you die from the attack itself. Killing the human master will not kill the NZ. You must undo what ever spell was used to create the NZ. When a NZ has no master it will be a mindless wandering zombie subclass 1. They have 3 subclasses.

1- Slow moving, general battle field fodder, will stop attacking when given a food source. Will not die unless all parts are burned to ash.
2- Slow moving, more task oriented zombies. will not stop til burned or their mission is complete, then they drop and die.
3- fast moving guardian types. they will not start attacking unless they are commanded to attack..then they turn to #2, but will not die after completing the task.

B- Viralzombie. Zombies created by virus. Any fluid to fluid contact creates more zombies. They are completely autonomous and have no other purpose then to feed. They have no thought other then to feed. There are 2 subclasses.

1-Slow moving, standard zombie which was a dead human. Depending on how long they were dead is directly proportional to their movement speed. A person who was shot and killed, then infected will move at a fast walk speed. Anyone dead for 3 or more days will be limited to a slow walk.
2-Faster zombie. This is the worst subclass of VZ. They are the ones who were first killed by the virus and turned zombie at the same time. They were not killed, but only bitten. Therefore when they are undead, they can move at a fast pace, even run.

C-DNAzombie Any living thing can be turned undead / or simply a mindless flesh eater by altering its DNA, but that pathogen may not effect every animal the same way. Dogs may need to be bitten, while humans can be infected via air particles, birds remain unaffected even when eating the pathogen infected corpse. There are 3 subclasses.

1-phase 1 DZ, normal speed, pack instincts, may or may not attack based on assessment of the thing it sees. If cornered will attack or if separated from its pack it will also attack. P1DZs will be unpredictable unless they are in a pack and have a pack leader.
2-PLDZ (pack-leader). They are upper thinkers in the zombie world. They can plan and think. they are still stupid, but NEVER underestimate them.
3-Enhanced-DZ. Who ever thought creating a zombie with modified strength and limited weaknesses was a good idea is a complete idiot. Zombies that can jump 300 feet and rip open steel doors with their hands is a sure sign to just shoot yourself in the head while you can still do so. Encountering EDZs is imminent fail, so just commit suicide...make sure you shoot your brain.

I disagree with C, how exactly does altering DNA created an undead construct? You would need something that would cause the brain to continue functioning on it's primal level.  A mindless flesh eater isn't a zombie, it's a cannibal and a totally different thread topic.

Necrozombie gets my total thumbs up though, even if it's slightly redundant.

Zombie- General term used to identify a person who has died and comeback from the dead. Little is known about what a real zombie would be like but scientists speculate that most will spawn from liberals with no defensive skills and no guns. This will inevitably lead to a global outbreak known as Z-day or The Apocalypse.

Survivor- Anyone who has temporarily survived an outbreak. Most likely after a outbreak has started the world will have little defenses to stop a global infection. The only to survive will likely be the non-liberal type who have a plan and already are armed and ready to fight. To increase your chances of survival owning a firearm preferably semi or fully automatic with a stockpile of ammunition is advised. Also seeking other survivors, and setting up a properly dug in outpost like a mall or grocery store is recommended to repopulate the earth and outlast the zombie invasion.

Zombie Life- The time it takes a Zombie from its conception to die for a second time or whatever will happen. There is little known about a Zombies' lifespan, some theories include:

1. In the event that a Virus or Bio-chemical causes a zombie outbreak it is speculated that Zombies will eventually die from starvation like a normal person would since all they have is an infection and aren't actually dead. This may be postponed due to zombie cannibalism.

2. If an outbreak of biblical proportions where the undead actually roam the earth zombies might actually never die unless all have had there brains destroyed. This can be accomplished by survivors, but could also happen over time since their bodies will be decomposing and slowly will rot back into the earth. This scenario could take several years unless an outbreak is contained.

3. Zombies are full blown undead, do not decompose, and do not require food to continue undeadness. The only option would be to kill everyone by destroying brains in anyway possible to end the outbreak.

Everyone agree with these, I can change anything that is pointed out to be "dead" wrong.

Zombie Alien- Any unlucky intelligent life that land on earth unaware that a outbreak has occurred and are brutally infected.

Zombie Horde- Any large group of Zombies that travel in a pack. They are usually lead around by their unquenchable appetite for brains, and will seek out survivors. Once found the will consume them, or if unreachable slowly build up into a mega horde.

Mega Horde- A large group of Zombies that have slowly built up over time and can range from 1000 to the entire population of undead on the earth.

Hybrid Zombie  Possibly the most dangerous type of zombie that one can come across. They have the traits of both humans and zombies which makes for a deadly combo. They have a basic intelligence which includes being able to make plans, recognize danger and utilizing objects, but still cannot stop their hunger for humans. The closest example is from the movies Land of the Dead, and I am Legend(if you count those as zombies).

i disagree with the zombie not rotting part.. i think they do rot but that whatever virus infects them slows the decomposition down

World war Z explains it all

there are many reasons for, or rather causes of, zombification. here are a few...

the T-Virus causes the mutations in humans and animals and leads to the zombie apocalypse in the resident evil universe/world.

the Solanum Virus is the responsible agent in question in the works and world of max brooks(zombie survival guide and wwz).

the Rage Virus is to blame for the outbreak of the "infected" in the movies "28 days later" and "28 weeks later".

the Necro Mortosis Virus (A.K.A. Mortuss Ambulare and Corpus Vigere) may be yet another culprit for zombification.

the chemical Trioxin (A.K.A. 2-4-5 trioxin) is to blame for the outbreaks in the "return of the living dead" series.

Hell being full(and no it's not actully a quote from the bible), is a possible reason suggested for the dead walking the earth in both the origianal and the 2004 remake of "dawn of the dead".

that's all i can remember right off hand, there are many more, i'll post as i recall or run accross them...

I always thought zombies in humans would be like a form of rabies....let me explain..

sorta like 28 days and weeks latter these folks are infected with "rage" but more like rabies than ebola like in the film....since rabid animals can go nuts and attack anything, I think this will be te case for humans...a fever of fatal temperatures causes hemorrhages in the brain altering victims, causing them to be insane b.c of the pain and attacking others

In order to have a proper discussion, you may want to define "defination". Or did you mean definition?
