http://www.gearupcenter.com/products/crovel-extreme-note-wait-times-charge-upon-purchase.html In case you havent seen one ![]() Saw one of these things on doomsday preppers recently what do you think about adding one of these to the SHTF bag? |
|
I could tell before watching the reviews on youtube that the axe part and the saw blade part was not going to work. There isn't enough mass on the business end. To make cutting with it efficiently you would have to sharpen it down to a fine sharp edge and that just wouldn't work due to the edge dulling too fast.
I think a person could probably add a pound or two to their load out over that shovel and come out ahead with a couple extra separate tools. |

There's about $32 worth of parts, welding, machining and marketing in that thing. Why does it cost nearly (or over with shipping) $100? I could buy all those tools on the right for that! Each one better at it's task than this thing! Why? Because they premiered it on Doomsday Preppers, and like gun folk, and diesel folk, the prepper folk will spend more than they have to on a fad item. |

Is the guy making these the same one that was on Doomsday Preppers and shot his thumb off? He had all his sh!t, preps and two young out in the field, blew his thumb off investigating a hang fire and the camera had to treat and med-evac him. He said he made prep money selling something like this.

It was out about a year before it made it on "Doomsday Preppers", I have seen this on other forums and when I watched the show I knew exactly what it was. Before the show it was the same price, so they didnt jack up the price since the show. So that argument is invalid. I dont own one due to the weight, I like the concept and it is made in the US. For a vehicle kit I wouldnt mind it, but I already have a crowbar and shovel, along with other things in my vehicle as it is, so I wouldnt purchase this myself. Also to the statement about $32 worth of items involved. Well of course, how do you think ANYTHING is made and sold, the items are made/assembled, then sold at a higher cost. Thats called profit. Everything in a free economy works like that. If he is using a distributor then they have to take a cut as well. Thats called wholesale pricing, then distributor pricing, then retail cost and then finally the end consumer pays MSRP or whatever the store marks it up to make themselves a profit. I know for a fact items that literally cost $5 to make, but sold to a distributor for $13, then the distributor sells it to a storefront for $20, then that store marks it up $29.95 and sells it at that all day long. Basic economic stuff here guys, dont be foolish. |
| If it is a heat treated tool it does not cost 37 bucks in parts to make. How many of you have a heat treat oven big enough to put one of those into? That costs big bucks. It is heavy for most personal carry but it does work and it is american made. I have knives that cost way more than 100 bucks and no one ever complained about them. |

Basic economic stuff here guys, dont be foolish. Yes. I am aware of all this. Thanks for the implied insult. You gonna tell me water is wet next? My point still stands. As an untested and new tool that looks like it has a number of weak points $100 is too goddamn much money. It doesn't compete well enough with the stuff it's trying to replace at that price point. $80 is a maaayyybe. $60 is a "would consider it" and $40 is "hell yeah I'll get one". He's free to choose any price he wants, but he's making a choice about price that's going to keep it from being successful. I'll keep an eye on it. Though I'd prefer that other super-shovel thing be available instead, it looks more useful. (The Chinese super shovel.)

| I think this guy has a good idea he made a product that preppers will buy now that it was on tv LoL with the maker shooting himself LoL. kudos to him for makin money on the end of days suvival hype. I think as stade bettter to have several tools in decent size compared to one tool that could be broken or lost. Everybody has ther own bugout tools in their bag to each their own. |

.
That Chinese Super Shovel looks suspiciously like a piece of WWII equipment issued to every person in the US, German, and several other Armies. Not saying it isn't useful. Just that doesn't look like anything all that new and I certainly wouldn't give that much money for one. |
