So I was thinking last night.

I really enjoyed playing the game "Fallout 3" on my PC. It lets you explore and do as you please, rather then a straight lineier game.

So I was thinking. Why not a zombie game like this? Throw you in the middle of a barren town, and let you explore and hunt as you please. go from setlement to setlement helping (or killing) survivers and all. Yeah there would have to be some "ultimate goal" like Fallout 3, but for the most part, let you roam around and kill zombies.

I know "Dead Island" is supose to be a sandbox type free-for-all game, but come on, that game has been in the works for years.

What do you guys think?

That's for console. I would really like:

-Fallout 3 graphics and character development, including your own home to store stuff;
-Tons of weapons and gear, all to be combined and upgraded;
-The ability to play online;
-The game to run on a PC. I have aconsole, which is fine for racing and casual gaming. But when it's time to put bullets in zombies' heads, I prefer a mouse to place the shots.

So my wish list would combine Fallout 3 with World of Warcraft.

I like the idea.  Add the possibility to add some players or computer characters to your 'band of surivors' with their own stories and such as well.  Heck, you could even make managing them and their supplies part of the game for a little realism.

One thing that may be cool to add would ba a "hunger" meter. It would add a new twist on the game. The more hungry you get, the slower you move, less accurate with guns etc etc.

I just enjoyed the "freedom" that fallout allowed, but I wish there was zombies instead of the stupid mutants, and alll the other creatures.

Screw that - I prefer a GUN to place my shots.

Wii or Playstation Move - both have guns to turn the game into a poor man's FATS system.

That is a heck of a great idea, add in some provisions for thirst as well.

A hunger and thirst system is added in Fallout: New Vegas. There is also at least one zombie mod that I know of for New Vegas that randomly infects a character, but then the game wanders the zombies and keeps track of who is and is not infected. Sounded good but I never got around to messing with it.

i've though about this myself befor eand contemplated many of the things listed here already.

a couple things i thought of not listed here so far would be:

instead of a "house" you could hold up in the various buildings around the map but would have to savenge materials and reinforce your stronghold from time to time while you were using it as sanctuary. additionally you could upgrade your house or stronghold whatever with plants to produce food, loot solar panels windmills etc to produce energy, add defenses from tanglewire and fences to man traps.

vehicals, more realisti then some of the war games where there are humvees and tanks everywhere, sure their could be some make them them rare and special, but i think it'd be cooler if it was mostly civilian vehicals, everything from bicycles to scooters to SUVs econocars big old redneck pick up trucks etc. and accessories like brushgaurds bigger tires etc. could added much like the weapons platform i heard about in fall out, you'd need to occationally preform maintenance(or finding parts could be a side mission etc) and fuel(some gas some deisel) would need to be added to your various vehicals. vehicals would become damaged and stop running but not just blow up unless a group of other survivors blew your shit up, i hate how games like GTA etc the vehicals take damege and keep running until the catch on fire and explode, but you never just get a flat tire that you could change when convienent...

the group thing was already mentioned wether multiplayer or AI or a ombination there of, the AI players could man the stronghold and be assigned to do menial tasks such as tending the garden providing defence, camp duties etc. regular supply runs, communicaton and bartering runs etc. anything you would do outside the outpost would be your 1st person shooter time. inside the stronghold it could be more like a simms type game...

basically something like a combination of fallout, simms dead frontier etc. aww fuck it it'd probably be easier to just engineer a Z-virus and turn it loose in the real world...

So basically, what we need is:
-A bit of Fallout;
-A bit of GTA
-A bit of Simms
-Online WoW-like capability
-An app for your favorite mobile OS, for bartering and keeping track of your AI band of followers.

Okay, I can see that working. So we only need an idiot an investor with a shitload of money to facilitate our needs.Who's calling Steve Jobs?

and somehow added points for owning weapons in the real world.

i fucking hate playing first person shooters against guys whom spend all day on a game system and whom have never even touched a real firearm much less know how to properly load and operate one and getting my ass handed to me...

I dream about this kind of game constantly, but it never seems to come true. I'm all for the massive customization of characters, weapons, and I guess even vehicles to an extent. Perhaps even a 'backpack' inventory system based on a character's (NPC or player) stats as well as various 'sizes' of backpacks or other methods of carrying objects without using your hands.

i've been paying alot of attention to this since they have some good people working on it.  I tried to throw them a bone with firearms technical support but I dont think its going to happen.  Hopefully the former soldier they have on the dev team will do it right.

Here's hoping. But knowing how "knowledgeable"  some soldiers can be when it comes to firearms, especially anything outside what they haven't been trained on.... But who knows? This guy could know his shit.

Yeah I have a friend at work who was in the army and in Afghanistan. He doesn't own any guns (yet) but we went to a gun show once and he was looking at the AK's, and knows I have two AK's and he asked me "How does an AK work without the tube on the back." While it is a legitimate question, and not as though he's dumb for not knowing, but it does illustrate what you mean about not knowing what they haven't been trained on.

I knew a guy at work who was in the Louisiana National Guard, who believed .223 sucked and that it was the same round used in the SKS, which is why the Russians switched to 7.62x39 when the adopted the AK. On top of this, he believed the military should switch to the AKM.

Funny thing was he wanted an AR based on the M4 he carried in Iraq.

But that's besides the point of this topic, and I've gone and strayed too far.

I play F3 on PC, and I use a mod that has hunger and thirst and sprinting.  Makes it more intense and gives purpose to the food and water in the game.

http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2761

Makes it a new game, if I could rewind all the way back to my first playthrough of the game, I would add this to it.
