ACTION:
1) WE NEED 50,000 MORE SIGNATURES BY NOV. 11 TO GET THIS PETITION REVIEWED BY THE WHITE HOUSE. SIGN HERE: https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/do-not-pass-hr3999. MAKE SURE TO CLICK VERIFICATION LINK IN EMAIL YOU RECEIVE AFTER SIGNING. (See ** below for list of REPUBLICAN sponsor/cosponsors.)

2) Contact your federal reps to oppose H.R. 3999: https://www.firearmspolicy.org/hr_3999_republican_semi_auto_ban

PLEASE DISTRIBUTE ACTION LINKS.

EXPLANATION: H.R.3999 would "amend title 18, United States Code, to prohibit the manufacture, possession, or transfer of any part or combination of parts that is designed and functions to increase the rate of fire of a semiautomatic rifle but does not convert the semiautomatic rifle into a machinegun, and for other purposes."

This measure could easily ban virtually any device, part, or accessory -- including OEM parts that have been refined or machined by a licensed gunsmith -- that ATF or law enforcement believes could, as the measure states, "increase the rate of fire."

I'm hoping the idiots that wrote this bill will see the sheer numbers of signatories and make them fear for their seats in the next election.

Trump has pushed a pro-gun agenda. Perhaps we can get him to veto this crap based on its absolute vagueness.

Thanks to those who signed.

Instead of wasting your time on petitions that do absolutely nothing, call your reps.  You don't need to be eloquent, in fact simple is best.  Just tell the person taking your call that you're a constituent and you'd like to urge your rep to oppose HR3999.  No need for anything else, just keep it simple.

Emails are ok, calls are best, so get both.

Petitioning the White House has nothing whatsoever to do with bills in the House of Representatives.

Correct. The Speaker decides which legislation gets to be voted on, with one unlikely exception.

The White House can certainly take an interest in legislation, communicate with House leadership or individual members discretely or overtly, measure public sentiment, and put out feelers about VETOING a bill -- and finally vetoing final legislation if passing both chambers. Spent much time in D.C. lately?

The petition is not useless at all. It's a very public display of sentiment about a specific bill and shows up in the top petitions on petitions.whitehouse.gov.

Thanks. That's the one thing that has me confident about any of this.

This bill seems to have done it's job in the "see we care!" Dept and will no go away forever hopefully.

Not that it isn't bullshit of course.

According to GOA, Ryan's begging for the legislation to pass: "Speaker Ryan now asking ATF to impose gun control unilaterally", and the article contains an action link for you to petition your reps.

Nonsense. The president has to sign all legislation into law.

I've been working my butt off to get people to sign the petition, even going as far as buying ads on Facebook.

My efforts have yielded about 4341 new signatures and we need 48,724 signatures by November 11, 2017 to get a response from the White House. Note that I've been able to convince 1,317 people to write their senators and house rep.

I know this petition is not anywhere near the greatest treatise of all time addressing "gun control" legislation, but it does sum up the danger of the bill (banning anything "to increase the rate of fire of a semiautomatic rifle" could mean literally anything -- like your fingers?).

But someone put it out there at the right time and it got to almost 47,000 signatures when I found it.

Most importantly, we could get President Trump to veto and/or tweet the dang bill to death. A 100,000 signatures would also make the Republican sponsors worry about their reelection prospects in 2018, as we know the establishment types aren't exactly feeling secure these days with the Democrat Party imploding (and see "Schumer steers Dems away from gun votes"), and we know the GOP hasn't been an opposition party since when, 40 years ago?

Please kindly spread the word -- THE LINK IS https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/do-not-pass-hr3999 -- and encourage fellow patriots to sign the petition and distribute the link.

THANKS!
