my poor old shepherd has had a rough month...
partial tail amputation went well but he picked up mange while in the hospital... I think I have that under control with some topical Revolution. now it looks like he has canine lupus... starting to get really bad on the side of his snout. might have been all the stress that triggered it. anyone have a treatment that works? thanks |

It went something along these lines. In regards to picking up "mange" was this diagnosed by the vet there? Which type? There is demodectic mange and sarcoptic mange. All animals will have demodex but it can become problematic in an animal that is immunocompromised or stressed. Can you post any pictures of the "lupus"? Was this diagnosed by your vet or dr. google? |

thanks - it is the demodectic type. skin biopsy confirmed.
he has been on the cyclosporin for almost two years to control PAF so yes lot of stuff going on... I was told by the vet at tufts that treatment for the canine lupus is typically also an immune system suppressor... The lupus has not yet been diagnosed - he has a patch on his snout where the skin has thinned out. the end of the spot has a crusty appearance . I will get a picture up. |
