Anybody have one ?
Same classification as a GSD ( working breed ) Breed is to protect the flock and home . Just got a puppy , female 6.5 weeks old |

Great Pyr is a GREAT dog choice yes, they are categorized as 'working class' and so is the GSD, but that's meaningless. GSD = herding the sheep/cattle. Great Pyr = living in the mountains with the flock protecting it from wolves and bears. (Flock Guardian) 6.5 weeks? I hope you hit the wrong key, because that's awful young, pup should still be with mother.

Every one I've met, from flock guard to show dog to house pet has been a great dog. We're they not covered in a ton of white fluff, I would seriously consider owning one myself. |

Had her for 2 weeks today.
She was housebroken within 3 days She eats Nutro large breed puppy food like it's going out of style I really don't know much about the breed , but so far she is very attentive , eager to learn . Had her to the VET to be de-wormed 2 days after having her home . Our vet said she appears to healthy and warned us that she will be LARGEa |

Get her on an all raw diet ASAP. Dry food is like Mcdonalds on dog's system. It gets them through, but it's shit. Agreed. Raw diet is best diet. I did a brief summary of it here. |

Quoted: This was a rescue situation Mother and father were purebred with papers , I have papers for her , but we had to take her in order to save her from a shelter Can you give me more information on the situation? It's not making much sense. Why did you have to 'save' this pup from a shelter? Where I am from even the local state or city run shelters would keep the pups with the mom for at least 8 weeks if not 9. They'd also not have a problem placing PURE BRED puppies. Heck, they don't have a problem placing MOST pups. I could see being worried that an adult pit mix sent to the shelter may end up on death row very quickly, but not pups. Regardless, you have the dog now. If she was in a situation where she needed to be saved, I suspect the owner beforehand was NOT doing all the puppy workup that should be done. Lucky for you larger dogs tend to mature a bit slower, so you might still be in a decent place to make some lasting good impressions. I suggest you go here http://thepuppyplan.com/the-science/week-5-7 and check out the 5-7 week, 8 week, and 9-12 week, including following the links to 'download tasks' Note for people who always wonder why a quality breeder charges so much? Well in addition to looking at health when selecting parents and screening as much as possible for disease, a good breeder also invests a lot of hours working up a pup so it is as best equipped for our modern world as possible.

Friends of ours , rescued two adult PYRs , registered from a farm. Older couple had health issues moving to Florida at very short notice. Don't know much else about them , but our friends got the 2 adults , female pregnant at the time. Our friends also got alpacas , a horse , and some other misc animals all dumped off at their farm. This is in addition to other animals they already had. They started to give away the PYR pups as they have a working farm and all of these extra animals was more than they could handle. They needed to find homes quickly due to other situations in their life . Our friends that rescued the entire farms worth of animals. Our pup is healthy and happy. Please don't judge on how somebody could have handled the situation better , or try to justify why breeders deserve to be able to sell dogs for $5000. I really don't care. We will raise this girl like a member of our family. She has already been given a clean bill of health |
