My wife and i have thought about getting a second cat to give our current one some company while we are out at work.  Have any of you had good results with this or would you advise against it?  Our cat is about 1.5 yrs old and is a female so we were planning on finding a male about the same age.  What we dont want to happen is the cat think she was replaced.  We also done want the cats to start marking territory but i hoped the male female deal would help that.

So what do yall think?

Cats are just fine alone. They are solitary animals by nature.
Littermates tend to get along better but most of them enjoy company.
Either the new one or the existing one may develop territorial issues but generally a sexed pair of similar age like that will take to one another.

There will probably be an adjustment period, but usually that doesn't last long and they will get along great, or at least tolerate each other.  I have six cats in my house currently.

Get her a playmate.   I'd say another female.  Younger.      It may take a couple months, but but your cat will like someone to play and cuddle with.

get anther female. but what i would do is for awhile lock the new cat up at night and slowly let it out your new cat might get mad but cats normally accept  new things better. i have a 2 year old and a 11 year old cat living together they manage. and i just added a dog in the mix the 11 year old is indifferent about the dog but my younger one loves it after a week he was ok
