| Anybody have a book about US Military history they'd like to recommend? |

It really does depend on what part of history is interesting to you.
I have read a lot of civil war and WWII books. WWI, Korea and the Vietnam war have not been as interesting to me. Not sure why. could be the authors as well as the time period. Stephen F Ambrose has several good WWII books. Wrote the band of brothers book and at least 3 other books about that era one about pilots Which was good. There are books by 2 other authors that cover the band of brothers group of people Plus Richard Winter's biography which I am currently reading. The Biggest brother and one other I forget the name of. For the Civil war, there are a couple of good authors. Shelby Foote(sp) has a couple of really good ones. They are a little dry in places but overall very interesting if you enjoy some of the details in combat and stratagey of the time. There is an interesting book about Robert E Lee on leadership written by HW Crocker III. I found it very interesting. Could not put it down. Covers a lot of battles as well as his leadership style. There was an interesting "book" I found once. Bought a copy but gave it to my uncle in law. Was actually a collection of replicated historical documents, letters home, as well as news paper clippings about the war from both sides. Had muster sheets, casualty lists etc.. Very cool. Never seen it again. Forgot about the cold war. There are a few interesting spy books out. I have a couple. Mostly CIA type ops that were declassified. Not really a good book, rather a collection of notes. |
