A former U.S. Army Serviceman, fellow Arfcom member(screen name: ZARecht) and the author of "The Morningstar Strain" series has passed away at the young age of 26. Though he did not post often, he was a member here and more notably the author a couple darn good zombie books. I have read and highly reccomend the first two of his books, and am currently awaiting the release of the third from Permuted Press. I never met the man in person, only through a few exchanged emails, but he had a wonderful since of humor and truely did seem as though he was one of the good guys...
He once expressed to me in an email that he was eagerly awaiting the completion of the third book in his trilogy. He said he really was looking forward to seeing the trilogy lined up on a shelf. He unfortunatelly did not live to see that happen. I have no idea how far along he was in finishing his third novel, but his family is reportidly having it finished and Permuted Press will be publishing it. I wish he had realised his dream and been able to see the three displayed together. Once the third book is made available I will certainly be proudly dislpaying the trilogy on my book shelf. I offer Arfcom's sincerest condolences to all of his family and friends... I accused Z. of being "the devil" once after reading an email he'd sent me containing some teasers about his second, and at the time, upcoming book which had yet to be released. He replied back "I'm not the devil. We're just drinking buddies. =)". Well sir, in Memorium I would like to thank you for your service to our country, and for your great novels, you will be missed. I shall raise a glass, and have a drink for you!.. More information about Mr. Z.A. Recht and his books can be found on his website HERE... Z.A.'s family have set up a memorial for him on Facebook, it can be found HERE... The obituary:

He was a graduate of the Powhatan School in Boyce, Va. He also attended Handley High School, of Winchester, Va. Colleges attended were West Virginia University and Northern Community College. He was a unique self-educated historian. Zachary was employed in 2007 as a staff writer at The Journal newspaper. This year he was an invited guest author to the "Horror Realm" convention in Pittsburgh, where his fans were able to meet and greet him, as well as listen to readings from his books. He also has participated in the "Poetry and Prose" Writer's Day here in Berkeley County. He completed boot camp in the U.S. Army at Fort Jackson, S.C., where he graduated as 1st squad leader and won the sharpshooter competition. Services and interment will be private. Re: Author Z.A. Recht has passed away « Reply #45 on: December 12, 2009, 07:56:10 PM » –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– i contacted Ali his sister on facebook to wish her and her family my condolences, and she kindly replied which i was thankful for. her main wish was to let the forums know that they as a family will be keeping his site up and running. she also let me know that, the rerelease of plague of the dead will be a bit delayed and that they are going to get the final book of the trilogy finished for him and released hopefully next year. fairwell to a wonderful talent. we will all miss you. I passed this thread a couple times while browsing active topics, and something about it kept sticking in my brain, without having read it.
I finally opened it, and you instantly cleared up that confusion. I had gone hunting twice, in local bookstores, for his books, and had memorized his name along the way. It's a shame when anybody dies young, and I'm sad to see him go. Thanks for letting us know. I've bookmarked the books, will order them one of these months. |
