I agree.  The song I keep hearing on XM reminds me of Helloween mixed with AFI.

That's where I heard them too.  I was like:

Not very impressed by their music.

Herman Li is good, but after a while I get tired of hearing his sweeps, throw in some good riffs and make a good sounding solo over it, not the 50000mph solos I'm hearing and their music may sound better.

I remember when they first came out & people kept calling into ch42 - Liquid Metal & Ward Cleaver would get pissed. I get a kick out of Ward.

I guess there's such a thing as knowing too much theory?

Refined technique and pure speed are no substitute for taste and melodicism.

I'd rather hear B.B. King play the ONE right note than hear these guys play 5000.

And either way, it'd take about the same amount of time.

Billy Gibbons sets the standard for soloing, if you ask me.  What he does is always
UTTERLY tasteful and lasts just long enough.

He can play five notes and say everything that needs to be said.  Makes you want to
either practice more or throw your guitar away.

They are entertaining once in a while, but I wouldn't buy their CD.

Terrible.

...But they're probably fairly decent at a live show, right?

Terrible.

Enduring their "music" was bad enough when it came on XM's Liquid Metal.  But a few 5 minute songs couldn't hold a match to the hell that was Dragonforce playing at a live show for over an hour straight.   What's worse were the Dragonforce fans that arrived en masse...  All with greasy long hair, and none of whom had bathed for the past week.

The Bud Light wasn't helping...  I was miserable for most of the show.  Being packed into the pit with those people resulted in two courses of antibiotics and steroids not long afterwards.  The experience was bad enough that it made the other bands playing relatively unenjoyable and I have yet to attend any concerts since.

To sum it all up,

Terrible.

I enjoy guitar wankery every once in a while.  Dragonforce brings that in spades.

I would not agree with them being a bad live act,  thoroughly entertaining.  They don't stare at the floor and play nor do they take themselves too seriously.

I like them every once in a while, but not too often.
