| A Martin OOO-18 is pretty much a guitar I'd spend the rest of my days trying to get good enough to play the sound out of. My old busted hands love the 000 a friend lets me play every once in a while. His is from the 1950s but if I could get something half as good I'd be pretty happy. I don't need a $$$ D38 or D45 or Collings or Boucher work of art - With my stubby, twisted fingers and re-starting guitar late in life I will never be that great, but when I play that 000-18, it sounds so nice and is so much easier to play that I don't seem to suck as much and that just makes it fun. |

I was reading what Eddies Guitar said about that Olsen in the OP. Whoever’s writing their stuff is a cross between a poet and a real estate agent. Their descriptions of the instruments they have for sale is truly inspired at an almost ethereal level. There are a couple of luthiers that have apprenticed under James and Ervin who are building stuff. Maybe you won’t have to sell anything if you only need to come up with $24k?

I am good with my guitars, but if I were to go for a Grail guitar, it would be a Gallagher G-50, made in Tennessee. Yeah I am familiar with alternatives. But it just wouldn't be the same in my head even if the guitars are as good. I have a Ryan and if I was passing on Olson it would be for a Kostal. And his start at $26K so only $4K cheaper baseline. Far as I can tell there is no way it doesn't hold it's value so I think I'm sending the 25% of $45K today. Why me? Why did I meet a guy who stops by every other year with godlike guitars I can play. I played two of his Olsons. The BRW was surreal. |

It takes a lot of time looking at used guitars to find one that isn't beat to shit and I live in the north east and most people are dishonest and the winters are very dry and I have given up trying. I did recently find a Zager Z50 CE that was less than 1 year old and taken care of and the guy only wanted $600 so I bought that and set it up myself, because it really needed it. It's a very nice guitar ( sitka spruce top and solid mahogany with nice binding and inlays) for $600 but there is no way I would have paid the new price of $1500 for it. Finding a taken care of anything from the 1970s to 1980s is pretty much impossible around here. I would rather buy new at least knowing it is real and not from TEMU and hasn't truly been abused yet. But I do still look on occasion. |

I love seeing the variance in what is a dream guitar. Flying V. Never played one. Might be awesome. Kind of guess peoples age by some of this. Like classic cars. 60s/70s muscle cars appeal to my age group but younger guys could care less and want later model classics. I will make two comments. One, I have decided I really don't need to spend $45K on a guitar so am not getting my Olson. I played my other higher end guitars this week and realized I already HAVE dream guitars. Other comment is on older guitars with wear. I'm cool with that. Tells a story of a lifetime of use. But I can't get into the "relic" guitars made by Fender and Gibson. For me I'd want say a 64 StrataCaster but new old stock. No dings or wear. To each their own though. No judgement just nor my thang. |

So many guitars to lust after here.. But oddly, I already have (after I finish with upgrading tuners and installing new pups) the guitar in hand.. it will be outfitted just like the one I owned 50 years ago. A Gretsch Corvette with Bigsby and HiLoTron pickups.  Currently it has FilterTrons. |

I mainly play around with the pre-sets and the "65 Twin" is my favorite. That amp setting on any combination of the neck and middle pickup is what I think an electric guitar should sound like!! I also just ordered locking tuners for the Strat. I can change strings on regular posts, although I do it infrequently enough that I have to relearn it each time, but I have zero interest in messing with the vintage style where the end of the string goes into the top of the post and you bend it and twist it around. No thanks! |

I have a B50 on my Schecter like that one but I basically upgraded it to B5 spec by replacing the nylon tension bar bushing ls with the BiggsFix bar with roller bearings. Appears that it is nownout of production  . Also i have a roller TOM, TUSQ XL nut and roller string trees. Tuning stability is now up there with my Floyd 1000 series. Before the BiggsFix the stability was sketchy, even with the OEM roller TOM. I wouldn't do an imported Bigsby (50/70) with traditional saddles.

Reason is I have a Ron Thorn custom built version of a Les Paul that just seems to do it better than any I have tried. Not saying I tried some of the high end ones like the Murphy Lab stuff but I'm happy with my Thorn.

Bigsby - in my experience - stays in tune better than most systems. But is a little more difficult to set up (string pathway seems difficult for some people to get right). String-thru Bigsby is the best version. HiLoTrons are an earlier version of pickup. Sort of like a P90. Pretty loud, a bit raw. |

This is why we have choices. I still think my Strat is #1 BUT I haven't really jacked in and trued different sounds from the tele. And it is kind of an unfair competitio. The tele is made in America with noiseless PUPs while the Strat is a Custom Shop with 69 Abigail Ybarra special Custom Shop PUPs. And the tele is heavier. But just getting started. Ya never know. |

| My last couple of trips to Guitar Center has nudged me toward actually having a dream guitar. I have a Yamaha FG3 and have tried numerous high end Martins and Gibsons, along with a few Taylors (I have a Taylor 110e that I consider to just be an okay guitar). During my last two trips, I discovered Taylors Gold Label series and those things really resonate with me. After having done some research, I'm not exactly sure which one's I've tried. I know I tried at least one from the 5xx and 7xx series, but I don't know if they were traditional dreadnought, slope-shouldered dreadnought, or both. When I first started messing around with guitars on a regular basis, I fell in love with Taylor's American Dream slope-shouldered dreadnought, but couldn't justify that price bracket, for where I was in the journey. |

I want a 1959 les paul. However, my Gibson les paul studio with mojotone PAFs sounds so good I'll likely never buy another. I want a mid 50s strat. But my fender 50s style used to be good enough until a water heater failure waterlogged it and ruined the finish. I am attempting right now a rattlecan nitro two tone burst. If that doesnt work, I'll try dakota red. I want a vintage Martin D28, but the newer one with repaired headstock that I got for $1200 sounds pretty darn good. I have other guitars which I'm probably going to sell. Not much you can't do with those three. And I need the money to build up my amp collection.

I went back to Guitar Center and it's official. My DREAM guitar is a Taylor Gold Label 710e or 717e! My Yamaha FG3 sounds good, but it's a PITA to play. The neck is just too big for me to play it easily. The Taylor, on the other hand, has a very easy to play neck and it sounds much better. The feature that allows you to set the action by turning a screw is also a huge attraction. The 710e I played looked like this, but without the dark band in the middle. Gorgeous looking and sounding! Strat, LP and D28. Good taste. I guess you mean you want an original 59 Les Paul. Well you can buy one or trade your first born and rob an armored car. I also have a modern take on that with a Ron Thorn pictured above and satisfied with that.No have a 50s era Strat. Have a nice one also pictured. It has 69 Custom Ship Abigail Ybarra pickups and I am satisfied I also got that covered. I have several acoustics and seem to gravitate back to a Santa Cruz vintage jumbo. But would be happy with a decent D28 of the right era and no binding problems they seem to have now. I had a chance to play a D28 made around the 50s I think and wow what a voice and volume. |

I am a fan of Taylor guitars. I admit I am not a fan of Guitar Center for guitars. They are great for parts and electronics and strings etc. But if you can find a dealer in your area that shows more respect for display and care plus setups I'd buy it there. Heck I might even risk shipping from Sweetwater if you have a secure place to receive it. |

Maybe the fact that I show up with a tuner and my own pick and spend 95% of my time trying various Telecasters has something to do with it. I've decided that any future acoustics that are >$1000 will be bought in person and because they blew me away, when trying them. All of my other guitars, my amp and my digital piano came from Sweetwater, though. Only my Yamaha was over $1000 and that by only $29.

Some are better than others. I'm also a huge fan of the customer service of Sweetwater and return policy. I only bought one expensive guitar over the internet from Rudy's in NY. I found the Santa Cruz Vintage Jumbo I wanted and held my breath that it would be in perfect condition. When it arrived it took all my will power to let it acclimate to my house (was over 100 outside). The wait was worth it and it was perfect. It sits in front of me now for playing after I get off the net. But I get it. Maybe GC is working on their service. Its hard to display that many guitars that long and keep them in good shape but yeah I get it. |
