With youtube, today, we don't need anything. We need nothing - tons of stuff is available to us.
Oh and I was one of the first ones, ever, to kick off my youtube 'tutoring' channel back in 2006, right when it all started - I had my AC/DC 'SoloDallas' channel, showing how things were really done by AC/DC. Haven't stopped since. It actually became my job. Life. Is. Good. |

Well, today is my birthday and my wife and boys surprised me with a Squier Telecaster and a copy of Rocksmith!
I am super excited and the tips of my fingers are already numb. |

Thank you!

Happy birthday!
My son started on Rocksmith. It became less of a game and more of a serious learning tool. He takes lessons now weekly, but when he had his first lesson his teacher started with "Let's see where you are at." To "ok we can skip all this beginner stuff", and launched into play this now this. Now he has him doing scales and learning some pretty intricate songs. He still play Rocksmith. He left the PS4 for the PC version as he has songs available on PC that aren't licensed to PS4 he can also request a song to be made if it isn't available from a forum he frequents. |

Not sure what I'm in for but I think it will be fun (and by fun I mean frustrating as fuck until I can actually play something) |

I'm north of 50.
Started in December with a cheapo craigslist Squire Strat. Getting better every day. Upgraded to a Epiphone Les Paul Custom Pro last month. Full speed ahead. |

A little inspirational video for all of you here - I hope. I have been playing all my life but I get the most out of just a few chords.
Naturally, I can do more than a few chords, but what matters to me, mostly, is timing. Timing makes great music. Go play the guitar! Steve Miller's 'Take The Money And Run', A SoloDallas Multitrack Cover |

I learned to play in my 20's , I never really mastered it but I could play the songs
I wanted . Then in my 40's I suffered nerve damage in my left forearm/wrist . After that the loss of strength caused big time pain after just a few minutes so I gave it up . Now in my late 50's I found that while Guitar is out , Piano doesn't hurt nearly as much . So I picked up a lightly used 88 key Yamaha keyboard with a Sustain Pedal for $200 and I'm teaching myself the basics . If things keep progressing as I hope , I'll be taking some lessons soon . The way I see it , if I ain't dead I can learn |

Another one jumping in after a long break. Started in high school, then took a handful of lessons. Somehow ended up with a nerve issue that prevented me from playing so I sold off all the stuff. Now the nerve issue has subsided and I'm grateful for that.
Time to get back to it. I was never good but I did reach a point where I enjoyed playing for myself. I should have a guitar in a week or so and then it will be time to get back to basics. I'm psyched. **Edited to add I turned 50 a couple of months ago. Memory must be going, I forgot to mention that ** |

Nice...i dig it.
Tried playing irish folk music over the weekend. Was already trying to learn drop k8ck murphies and flogging molly stuff last month or so. But holy shit... Easy as ball chords but. The tempo and strumming had me going wtf...work hand work...ugghh Lmao. |

Welp, y'all have inspired me. I just found my son's acoustic guitar I got him from a pawn shop (that he never used). Learning to play has been on my bucket list for years. It's time. Just got a login on GuitarTricks. We'll see how it goes. Almost 53yo btw.
Plus if Protus can do it, how hard can it be!?!?! (love you man, no homo) And Protus - I want to learn specifically so I can play Irish punk and traditional. I've been singing it for years, and always wanted to learn to play it. |

View Quote Camp fire jam on the calendar the huh? Same..been a Molly fan since the mid 90s. Murphy's been on and off over the years. Pogues just noticing. Young Dubliners ,great big sea..etc Most of it's traditional stuff. Make great big sea or Molly channel on Pandora and enjoy. Easy one for you. Is the pogues " love you to the end ". Three basic chords. Trying to get Murphy's world of hate learned. Chords are most easy cheesy . But it's rythm/timing. Example is these songs- Irish rover Foggy dew Green fields of France Whiskey in the jar Galway girl Tell me ma. Etc etc Its 2-4 chords but strumming timing is all 108-120+. Honestly unless it's a B chord..and not 1/2 best chord changes I can play it... However...most of those I listed get pretty fast at some point. Good luck. Fwiw iirc a ok traditional tuber is Flanners folk songs. Doesnt have many but has good ones. Sides that. Bob tulip. Oh.. And here's what o attempt to play as well. Its a pick stick. Copy of s McNally strum stick. But uses banjo strings. Aka mandolin sounding deal. Chords are odd. But fun to play. Attached File |

I want to use an app to play along with. It, of course, needs to give me the ability to slow the playback speed so I can play along.
Songster looks good, but I am woefully unaware of what's out there. I would like to buy once.... |

I started at 43..going to be 45 here in a few weeks.
I took a few lessons, follow a few youtuber's and pay 21.99/yr for ultimate-guitar.com pro tabs/ chords along with a few app's. I was doing fenderplay, but to me, the progression was all over, lessons sucked and were all over the place. I have learned so much, its really starting to come together. I have an odd sympathetic movement thing with my fingers I can't control. So where most do chords a certain way, I can't because my fingers move or wont go...so I have to improvise and adapt. I have a Ibanez RG6003fm, a Taylor BBT that I hate and a Yamaha 3/4 that I love...along with a Line 6 amp and some pedals. Looking at getting an early 2000 Les Paul Epiphone next..or a Decent used Strat... |
