I was looking around for job announcements for overseas ATC work but came up empty handed.  I know Raytheon is going to provide the equipment for Iraq ATC operations.. Who is providing the bodies?
Thanks!

Good luck brotha.

I'm a new Controller assigned to the Raleigh/Durham Tower in NC.

I did hear about some friends I graduated with who were offered positions at a tower in Afghanistan they were staffing with Civilians... 1 year contracts at  200 Grand a Year I think, or something like that... but That only lasted a few months.

I find it pretty hard to believe that there are any 200k jobs for ATC over here in A-stan.  For one, the controllers are easily the worst controllers I have ever worked with, and find no reason to believe they had any experiance in ATC before comming here.  I fly both military and civilian, and every airport in the USA has professional controllers, these jokers will hold 8 rotorcraft in parking, hover and doing idiot circles for a slower fixed wing on a 10 mile straight in.  I would never recomend ATC jobs over here to anyone, stay home and pay your dues in the FAA system, while the wages are going down for the FAA, you pretty much sell your soul for a job that ends up paying 20 an hour with no weekends if you work for KBR.  Remember, KBR = 7 days a week, 365. Time off is always unpaid, and you life in a shit hole.  Just my view, been here for 3 trips now, 1,000+ hours operating here.

Right... I already turned down an FAA position at Palomar TWR here in socal.. I pretty much decided not to work for them... until they unscrew whatever is screwed up with the whole system..  I worked at camp pendleton then took two trips to Iraq and worked AA approach both times.. Have you flown there?

No I can't say I have.  I've been an Afghanistan rat.  A slight correction, there is a guy in a place called Jalalabad, not sure what his background is, but he can move rotorwing/fix wing aircraft around like no one I have ever seen.   There is nothing like a good controller, can make the stick wigglers job soo much easier, and maybe even a little fun.

I feel bad for you and all the other newer controllers.  The FAA is totally screwing you guys, along with pretty much all the other employers in the world.  I have 2 very close friends that work ATC in Cleveland (D side) and the cut in wages that they have seen in the last few years (new hires vs 5 years ago) is just crazy, but compared to a new job at a regional airline, its still really good money.

Yeah, its still good money but its 40% less than it was... and thats an agency imposed 40%... I'll pass
Some pilots can be wonderful to work with as well.  Usually awareness is the big thing... and being willing to follow instructions even if you don't know or understand why... I have always worked radar.. so I usually had "the big picture"  but some guys just couldn't handle being sequenced... All and all good experiences though.. with a few tense moments... but I doubt I will ever control again
