Well I was looking through some pictures and thought I would share this one with you all.  It is from the last shuttle launch.  I used to work on the Cape and still have some friends there, one of which sent me this pic.  Enjoy.

I've flown patrol over the Shuttle in an F-18 a bunch of times.

What are the ROE for a plane flying into the launch zone during countdown?

Well, It just so happens that just that happens everytime I fly that mission.  I don't get to splash it.  I have to escort it down.    I wanna shoot it soooo bad.

Those are some very unique pics.  Very cool!  If I was flying the F-22 I would buzz the shuttle and flip them the bird!

...and the very pissed-off and unsmiling guys with guns would be at the ramp to take your ass off to jail.

Before 9/11, the guys at the SLF (NASA) tower would allow GA pilots to fly down the length of the runway at 500' as long as you stayed west of the extended centerline.
I was at SLF Operations Thursday talking with some of the guys there while our new guys were getting a "walkdown" of the area. They said they missed those days as it broke up the boredom.

Nowadays, unless you're a scheduled ass or trash hauler, you're grounded on launch days.
