Here is a look into the new interior of the B737-900.

This is the panel that while in maintenance mode we can select certain colors throughout the cabin.

I flew recently on a 757. Sitting there in my seat looking around the cabin, it dawned on me that all the cabin lighting was LED. Ceiling lights, sidewall lights, No Smoking, Seat Belt, even the reading lights in the PSU's were LED. I guess the days are over of getting a squawk list on a napkin from the flight attendant, listing all the inop cabin lights. LOL.

It was pretty much SOP with the airlines, to grab a bag of the common bulbs that burned out, and keep them in your pocket while working the line. You were always guaranteed a couple "re-lamp" calls during your shift.

I'm glad, those little flourescent bulbs and holders were pretty junky.  Those PSU bulbs made some serious heat too.

Not sure why they'd build the extra costs of all the different colors, but whatever goes.

Now if they could make a 737 coach seats as comfy as the mad dogs, they'd have a winner

It is mood lighting.

Virgin America has it on their fleet.

The great thing about it.  It is cool and does not have to be replace like flourence tubes.

Bad thing: it anit cheap to replace.

Some LED's are multicolored! It is possible all those colors are achieved with one or two diodes. Other benefits of LED's are:
Less energy.
Brighter.
Most LED's don't heat up as much.
Service life is greatly extended.
Unit price is the same or cheaper.

Those are the same reasons LED's are taking over the trucking/auto industry. It was inevitable that they would find their way into aviation.

I don't think I could deal with some of those lighting conditions for very long. I could see how some people might find it easier to sleep on night flights, with cooler colors.

Yep. Not only for interior lighting, they're even replacing standard landing lights and taxi lights. I was involved a while back with an STC involving LED landing lights.

Holy fuck! I had flashbacks from activities during my misguided youth!

LED lighting is way cool.

They never had it so good in the 1970s.

Pretty cool

Like a champ!  (except I waited until too late to start my movie.  The end of flight announcements made me miss the end.)

Anyone know how "Jack Reacher" wraps up?

ETA:  RIF.  Yup, the wifi worked flawlessly.  Actually, that's the reason I was late starting my movie.  Damn work keeps interfering with my entertainment time.

I just can't wait for the first time someone tries to change a unit for inop lighting, and it doesn't work the way they think it does.

I think I flew on one of those this past weekend- an Alaska 737-900 ER. Looked like all LED lights.

The interior seems more roomy. The overhead bins are more out of the way. They had it fitted with thinner profile Recaro seats, and they're comfortable- plenty of back and seatpad support.

I really like working on the NG's more than I did on the -200 & -300, especially the E&E.
