So much win.

Are most units running the GAU or is it still the M3P these days?

I never got to shoot either.  I was always stuck with the XM296 which, as the Master Gunner, was too often the bane of my existence.

M3P for most of us. The TN Guard guys are running the GAU19b. Lucky dudes.

While I've never fired either, I've never heard anything bad about the M3P as a whole.  It's a fine weapon system.  Frankly, it's what the KW probably should have had to start but the M3P was developed from the get go to be fired remotely and electrically specifically for the Avenger and hind sight is 20/20.  The XM296.... well.... there's a reason it starts with X.

The GAU is supposed to be pretty sweet too but it also had its share of issues (at least in development.  Can't speak for the finished product).

I guess I'm rambling to say that the grass always seems greener until you actually have to mow it.

They still don't make a mount for a Cherokee.

Belt full of mk211 would be awesome.

Bob, the MP3 is overall a better gun but it is much more maint intensive than the 296 and less forgiving for the new Js who don't quite know all the tricks in caring for it...

Maybe well see the GAU-19 on the "F" model

Ouch.  "Maintenance intensive and unforgiving to new Js (and pilots) who don't know all the tricks" is exactly how I always characterized the 296.

It always killed me that we'd finally get the majority of them shooting well just as the last week of gunnery was ending.

Nothing much changed... only its lighter and spits bullets faster.... guns still only start humming after 4-5 days of constant work and use

I guess I am so used to all of the years of the 296 that when I first got the M3Ps I thought I'd be on a whole other level of awesomeness.. its just a small step up

Yeah, that makes sense.  Thanks for the info.
