A 3rd class medical for someone under 40 is valid for 5 years, over 40 is 2 years.
I will turn 40 when my current medical will be 3 years old. I'm assuming my medical will expire then on my 40th birthday as then I would be 40 with a 3 year old medical (a year past due!). Correct? Thinking I should probably go ahead and schedule a medical just prior to my birthday. |

FAR 61.23: "...And on the date of examination for your most recent medical certificate you were..." Interesting. So if I get my medical the day before my 40th birthday (when I'm still 39) I'm GTG until the month of my 45th birthday. If I wait til after my 40th B-day I'll have to get another medical in two years. Guess getting my next medical early will save me an extra one. The FAA must really feel people's health really goes downhill after age 40. |
