Very cool! Did you have Brian sign it? I picked up a copy of "The Untouchables" from him at the 07 Nellis AFB open house. The book is his accounts of the Libyan crisis, along with pictures and info on the jet. He used to appear at the greater air shows in the western states selling his books. I saw him again in 09 at the Sacramento Capital Airshow. In 07 you could get a copy of both signed for $175! At the 09 show he was asking nearly $500 for a signed copy of "Sled Driver"! He is a high strung individual that travels at Mach 3 with both feet on the ground. And takes his lunch very seriously hahaha!
A few years later I found myself passing through Atwater Ca, and decided to visit Blackbird #960. Standing there alone with one other older gray haired gentleman, we started talking about how impressive the SR71's were, and still are. After awhile the guy tells me he actually flew the SR71 as a RSO. His Name was Bill "Flaps" Flannegan. Turns out he worked on the Lockheed/spook side of the SR-71 fence. Worked later with Northrope on the B-2, and was instrumental in developing the datalink 16 project. He was also the only civilian to ever Fly a B-2 at that time. Last I heard he was the administrator of "The Blackbird Airpark" in Palmdale Ca. I was talking with an aviation/blackbird legend! |
