She was a 1968 vintage combat vet. That may have actually happened a time or two.

Stunning shot.

Same bird.  She belongs to the Cavenaugh Flight Museum. They are touring and 15 minute flights are $90. Hell of a ride.

Great pics!   I thought Old Crow crashed last year, did they move the paint to another bird or get her fixed?

Both the B model (pictured), and D model Old Crows were at the show. Neither have crashed since being restored.

The last two p-51 crashes I know of stateside are Baby Duck in 17, and Pecos Bill late last year.

LOL!

Some of the radio conversation was amusing to hear.  There were a lot of jokes being cracked about the grass.

The pilot of the second plane landing in the morning called out on the radio after landing.  "Woah! We need a harrow and baler!"

I was working security at our airshow 8 days before the Baby Duck crash.  Here is a picture I took with the Nikon D750 and 400mm lens at the show.  Not the greatest picture, but my last picture of Baby Duck.

Thanks!

I haven't practiced low light panning in a good while.  It was kind of fun to do again. IIRC it was about 5:10 AM when I shot that.

I don't know if you have seen my other threads from this week.

That is normal on the Merlin powered planes,  And a lot of Allison powered planes too.  He is likely running stoich to a hair rich.  I doubt the would be dumb enough to run a Merlin or Allison Lean or LOP for any period of time,  Far too expensive when things go bad.

That is heat bluing.  When in flight the exhaust is moved along the slip stream against the fuselage bluing the metal with a combination of heat and exhaust deposits.

We're applying herbicides, but be aware that technically, all herbicides are pesticides (but not all pesticides are herbicides).  Pesticide, as a term of art, refers to any substances meant for attracting, seducing, and then destroying any pest.  Plant or animal.

We were in some pretty country today on the LZ.  Pain in the rear to work, but awesome to look at.

Keeps the pilot on his toes.  I'm ground crew

This is what that site looked like from about 600' AGL.  What you're looking at is what we call SMZs, Streamside Management Zones meant to protect water quality.  Great for everything BUT the pilot.  About 140 acres down there to spray.
