Do any of you guys use simulators?

Which is the best?

PC or Mac?

Multiple monitors?

I'm just starting out and thought it might be a good way to practice. In need to buy a new computer anyway.

Thanks!!

Build one.

Hotseatsim.com makes some neat setups but the price is ridiculous.

Multiple monitor setups are pretty easy to do.  I use a 15 inch ELO touchscreen bare module and a 32 inch Sony HDTV.  I can use the stick/throttle for the fighters or a yoke mounted on the keyboard rack for G/A planes.

Here's a video of the touch screen in operation.

the CAE 6-axis, class D sims I've flown were the most realistic IMHO

how about a good sim for simple airport operations and communications and IFR practice?

Flight sim X will get you pretty far, the hard part is using the mouse to dial, radio work is near impossible.

Redbird sims are great, little spendy but you may be able to find one at a local flight school

to practice radio work find a CFI and a Sim hard to beat that.

At least the sim still has it yoke buttons.

And the arm rests look like the block 40'ed it.

5 and a check now. But most are wasted on BS "tactical" stuff.

And haven't had a hard landing or a pod scrape (knock on wood).

Yeap all the -135 sim's are up to Block 40 now. Salt Lake City trains up the Chili dude's who fly our old Block 30's...But they still come through Altus.

Nah, I'd just rather have quality instruction, as opposed to gee whiz visuals.
