I am looking for some books to read. I have gone through all the forum here and could not find a book thread. We really should tack one. Anyway here is what I have read:

Non-Fiction:
Fate is the Hunter - A must for any commercial pilot.
Arctic Bush Pilot - Great read on how Bush flying was done after WWII
The First Heroes - Great work on the Doolittle Raiders
Flying Through Midnight - Candlestick missions in Laos
Air America - Not really a good history, but a great bunch of anecdotes
My Heart is Africa - Man flies to Africa in his own plane and donates time to a charity. Africa wins again.
With Wings Like Eagles - History of the Battle of Britain and the events that lead up to it. Very enlightening.

Fiction:
Getting Even, Eventually - Story of a guy who steals a plane to do bush flying in Mexico

What books are out there that you would all recommend? I like reading about foreign wars and merc pilots. I have my eye on a book about the AVG and am looking for anything right now. I am at the bottom of the pile!

If you're open to broadening your horizons..

The Moon and Sixpence –– Fictionalized account of Gaugin.
Rousseau's Dog –– Historical biopic about the meeting, friendship, and falling out between Hume and Rousseau.

They are two books I've read that I had no expectation of enjoying, but did.  The first one was a gift from a (now) ex.  The second I honestly don't remember how I came across.

ETA: I had no idea this was in the Aviation forum, my bad.  Thought it was in GD or the general books stuff.

Forever Flying
The autobiography by Bob Hoover.  I have read my copy at least four times.

Here are a couple that I like, although nothing Merc-like at all, but they're fairly short and are an easy, yet fun read.

The hauling checks has a lot of fun stories, many of which brought back a lot of memories from my freight dog days.  I would say that Leaving On A Jet Plane is the better book though, IMHO.

I am not a pilot, but a book that I read and enjoyed was;

Flying the Unfriendly Skies, Confessions of a De-regulated Airline Pilot

Flying Through Midnight was surprisingly good. I loved how he told the story and how it all went down. Reminds me of a place I used to work.
I forgot to add East to the Dawn. After reading that I actually have less respect towards Amelia Earhart.
