Is there any way to slightly decrease the humidity in my humidor?  I have a 100ct desktop humidor with the see thru top.  I am using the standard rectangle humidifier in it.  I have about 40 cigars in it.  Right now the temp is 71 degrees and the humidity is 75%.  Is there a way to bring it down to 68-70% humidity?

Add more cigars  : )

put some of that gel in there that keeps the temp and humidity regulated.

keep it in a cool place out of direct sunlight.

in the mean time open the lid to let out some of that humidity.

2 things:

1. Are you basing your humidity off the analog dial built into the humidor, or did you pick up a digital as we discussed? The analogs are notoriously inaccurate.

2. If you are using a verified digital, leave the humidor lid open for a few hours.

If both above are being done, you need to get some 65% beads and put them in the humidor DRY. They will absorb excess moisture.

Yes, I bought a digital one like you told me.  I did the salt test AND I bought one of those bags with the salt solution that you drop the digital into.  I don't use the analong b/c it says it is 50% humidity

At first, I used the standard rectangle humidifier and the round smiley bead thing you gave me.  When I saw that the humidity was too high, I took out the smiley bead thing and just used the rectangle humidifier.

What are 65% beads?

Raise the temperature and the relative humidity should drop.

Open the lid for a while.

Sounds like we have the same basic humidor. Good call on removing the beads. Use only one of the methods. Both will probably shoot your humidity too high. Your humidor isn't big enough for two humidifiers at the same time.

But if you have the beads, I'd take the box out and put the beads in. They are supposed to be more consistent than the foam at releasing moisture.

Mine's working pretty well with the green foam box humidifier. My humi stays pretty constant ay 68%. I just can't get the temp down enough in this Texas heat.

ETA: The beads are probably what you have in the smiley face thing. If they're dry, you can stick them back in to suck up some moisture.

Ahhhhhh, that's simple then, you removed the wrong thing

Take the foam out and put the smiley back in.

The really proper thing to do would be get a 1/4lb of the 65% beads from Heartfelt, get a small stocking (footie from shoe store is perfect), fill it with beads, mist with distilled until about half change color and throw it in the humi. In a day or two, you will be right where you need to be.

BTW - Interested in knowing how close the digital was when you tested it. You got the H/D one, right?

My digital is dead on.  I bought the one you did at Home Depot.  I put it in a Boveda EZ bag to be sure that the humidity was correct, and it read 76%

Excellent.

Put the smiley in, take the foam out and order you some beads and you will be good to go. The foam does zero in regards to controlling humidity, it just puts out moisture. The beads when half wet/half dry will adjust the moisture in the box.

Ok.  I went to the heartfelt website.  Which round size do I need for a 100ct humidor?  The large one or the small one?

Neither, get 1/4 lb and go to the shoe store, grab a couple of those footie stockings that they have for when women try on shoes. Or use the ones you wear on "dress up day" j/k

Throw the beads in, tie off the end and mist with distilled until you see a half white, half clear mix of beads. Throw it in your box and forget about it for a month.

I use gladlock tupperware stuff for my loose ones.

For ease sake you make want to get the large puck though.  It's done for ya and the large one will deal better if you are opening and closing the humidor a lot.  Not that any of us do that.  I have four pounds of  the stuff in my tower and a pound in the cooler.

I ordered a 1/2 pound of the beads.  I am only going to use half of them.  I will put them into a mesh bag and spray with distilled.  I will take out all other humidification devices.  Sound good?
