I was having problems with my cheapo humi and my hockey puck so I bought two of those gel jar things that s supposed to be the hot shit. Opened first jar = Reading 57 Waited a day = went down to 56 Opened second jar = NO Change! Just for kicks, I went out and bought the smallest Colman cooler I've ever seen, the "take Six" model. 1 day later = 69! I'm just going to throw some ceder in there and call it good! |
| You may want to wash the cooler out to get the plastic smell out of it. Use a bit of distilled water and let it air out for a day before stuffing the cooler. If you can't wait get some 90% rubbing alchacol and wipe it down then hit it with distilled water and wipe dry and then add gars. |

I was having a problem with my humi when I first got it. (It's a 30-40 stick desk model.) It was burning through water like it was fun. I had to fill the puck up just about every week to keep the humidity up. I don't know how full you guys were keeping your wooden humis, but I actually figured out that it really was a smart idea to keep the humi mostly full. As soon as I bought a whole box and filled it to 3/4+ capacity, the humidity has been as stable as anything. I've only filled the puck about once every two months since then. I also bought a little cooler like you guys, and keep a full box of my regular and some other random single sticks in reserve, so that the desktop humi doesn't run low on cigars. (The cooler holds perfect humidity with a puck, even with nothing in it. Great stuff. Doesn't look so fancy, though. |

If youre having problems with a puck, this gel stuff is the shiznit! I ran two for a while and then took one out to see what would happen and nothing did. I'm still running 69-71 and after 2 weeks, the level in the little jar hasnt gone down at all! Hell of a deal for $3.00 |
I just bought one of those coolers too, and it's been great at holding 65% at 65 degrees. I'll tear up some boxes and add the cedar from them to it soon... -Mark. |

Sounds like the cheapo humi had a seal problem. Arfcom procedure for checking humidor seal. Night vision (optional) tactical flashlight (manditory) put light (turn it on 1st) in humidor. Close lid of humi. turn off lights in room. If you can see light from your humi....you have a seal issue....time for a new humi! |
