I bought a Savoy 100 count humidor on Sun. They calibrated the hygrometer and filled the humidification device at the store for me. I took it home and used a clean sponge with distilled water to place a very very light coat of moisture on the interior and closed it with a coffe mug of distilled water half full inside. I checked a few hours later and reapplied the water and did that 3-5 times total over a 36 hour period. Last night I took the cup of water out and put my scimpy 3count cigars in. (30 cigars imbound tomorrow.)

The temp has been about 64 degrees fairly consistant give or take. The humidity has been high. It read 89% on the digital and just over 60% on the analog at one point. The digital sits just below the analoge in the tray, not 6" apart. I tend to belive the digital.

So did I apply too much water? Why else could the humidity be so high?

How do I get it stabil/down.

That sounds like your problem right there. That is an awful lot of wiping down IMO.

I bought a 125ct last month, filled the device, wiped it down w/ distilled water, left the sponge in overnight and checked it the next day.

Took the sponge out and let it sit another day. It was still too high, so I took out the device and put in a humi-care jar. Let it sit one more day and it was done.

Consistently 65-68% since.

Here's a job question where are you keeping your humidor at home?

The location of a humidor in a home can have some affect on the humidity count.

Believe the digital meter, the anaylog's don't work worth shit, I know I've been selling cigar stuff for over 8 years.

It also could be the humidfier is to big for the size humidor and is putting to much humidity out.

Try cracking the lid for a couple of hours and then closing it and taking a reading the next day. The open time will hopefully take some of that excess humidity out.

If it only goes down to 80% thats fine. Ideally a humidor should be 75% but anything from 65% to 80% is okay. Anything over or under may stall damaging cigars over time.

add more cigars, and stop worrying about it so damn much. It'll even out in a few days. I have coolers I only open once a month to check on things, and it's always 68% +/- 2%

At 89% you should be worrying. Cigar mold can start forming on your cigar at the humidity. Plus the cigars will become a mushy and impossible to keep lit while smoking.

30 cigars arived today. The humidity was 65% when I put them in there. I did put a smaller humidification device (what do you call those damn things?) in there last night. I'll try the one suplied with the box tonight and check it tomorrow evening. Now it's just a matter of decideing to try something new or stick with my favorite Camacho.  Thank you for your responses, I'll keep the humidity from screwing up my new found "thing".
